For this photoshoot, we chose the pairing of Ning Rongrong and Oscar from Soul Land, centered around the theme of the wealthy patroness and kept man, making coordinated poses and expressions our primary focus. In terms of makeup and hair, styling the short pink wig required extensive work to achieve a soft, voluminous texture. To suit the character, I opted for light-colored contacts, while the eye makeup emphasized the lashes to enhance the lively sparkle in her eyes. The foundation was applied clear and dewy, using gentle contouring to accent soft facial lines; paired with pink lipstick, the overall look projected an exquisite, heiress-like elegance. For wardrobe, I selected a bright yellow mesh top—a fabric that catches studio light with a lovely translucent glow, perfectly befitting her wealthy background while accentuating movement lines during posing.
On the day of the shoot, my partner and I arrived early to test the lighting. A simple grey curtain was chosen as the backdrop to complement our vivid hair colors cleanly. For poses, I referenced the original artwork's hand placement—resting my hand naturally across my partner's chest, complemented by a confident smile to radiate wealthy patroness dominance. My partner wore a black-and-white patterned suit vest paired with a silver-blue wig and green contacts, forming a sharp complementary contrast. We calibrated our positioning repeatedly to ensure even facial illumination and avoid placing subjects too close to the edges of the frame. The photographer adjusted several light placements, using softboxes to soften skin texture and eliminate harsh shadows. In post-production, skin smoothing gave the set a semi-thick painted look reminiscent of 2D art while preserving the natural anatomy of live-action photography.
The on-camera chemistry was genuinely fun: to channel authority, I maintained an effortless sense of control throughout, while my partner struck a relaxed yet obedient demeanor, creating a palpable contrast on set. Thanks to the distinct character concepts, the atmosphere stayed lighthearted, and the final results met all expectations. Portraying Ning Rongrong this time prioritized nuanced expressions and fine makeup detail; exchanging tips with fellow enthusiasts on wig styling and eye techniques made the experience deeply rewarding. Soul Land is inherently captivating with highly recognizable characters, and bringing them to life with high fidelity made this a truly complete and satisfying shoot.
