[Cirno Cosplay] Touhou Project: Implementation Record and Shooting Insights of the Ice Fairy

This Cirno cosplay outfit was in my head for a long time, and recently I finally implemented all the special effect elements and costume fabrics at the shooting site. The overall look features ice blue and white as the primary tone, combined with large areas of lace and fine glitter tulle to convey the dazzling radiance of ice crystals.

The wig used for this shoot was a customized light blue short cut with straight bangs. The layered trimming required great skill to contour the face perfectly, enhancing facial sharpness. The massive light blue bow atop my head was the focal point of this look; internal support boning was added so it wouldn't collapse despite its oversized silhouette. The surface was spliced with delicate white lace and embellished with numerous snowflake-shaped rhinestones and metal chains. Although this headpiece and bow combo was heavy and caused head strain over time, this weight was completely worth the ultimate visual tension.

For the ears, silicone Elf ear props were used; they offered an exceptionally high fit and were dusted with matte loose powder to eliminate reflections so they wouldn't look fake under intense studio lights. A highlight of the Ice crystal dress outfit lies in the neckline. The chest area features a crisscross lacing design paired with white frilled lace, which not only cinches the waist but also gives the upper body a more structured silhouette. The dark red bow tie right in the center of the collar serves as a vibrant color accent; since vast areas of ice blue and white can easily create a visually floaty feeling, the high-saturation red bow instantly anchors the visual center, preventing the overall outfit from appearing monotonous.

The dress consists of three layers: the outermost layer is translucent pearlescent tulle, the middle layer is starry glitter tulle, and the inner layer is high-density white lining cloth. Beyond the inherent volume of the skirt hem, I wore a layered petticoat to ensure that when twirling or lifting a leg, the skirt flared out into a beautiful circle. The sleeves feature an off-the-shoulder design paired with expansive white elastic lace adorned with lace textures, complemented by separate lace wrist cuffs to complete the arm lines. The lower half features stacked white lace over-the-knee stockings with small light blue bows at the cuffs to echo the upper body's primary tone, paired with white platform Mary Jane shoes with delicate buckles for a highly harmonious look.

The handheld blue polygonal crystal prop was custom-made and felt pleasantly weighty in hand, featuring faceted refraction effects on the surface and embedded blue glitter inside that sparkled under bright lights. The blue ice crystal wings on my back were another major hurdle overcome for this shoot; constructed primarily of rigid transparent materials mounted behind the inner layer, finding the right angles was necessary to display their sharp facets and interior glitter effect.

Poses were attempted from four distinct angles during this shoot. Image one features a standing front pose holding the crystal, which most directly showcases front costume details and character expression. Image two shows a hands-on-hips high-angle shot; this slightly elevated camera position makes the subject look petite and cute while perfectly displaying the off-the-shoulder design and leg line. Image three depicts a front static pose with arms hanging naturally, tilting the head slightly for a casual gaze. Image four is a dynamic pose I personally love: lifting one leg while leaning slightly forward, extending a hand as if casting ice crystal magic or playing a prank. This angle severely tests skirt flow, while the white stockings and blue bows on the legs serve as great visual focal points.

The shooting process was actually quite intense, as using large areas of light blue and white in a white studio consumes light dramatically. To make the crystal wings on my back glow with an icy blue radiance, the photographer tested lighting setups repeatedly. The wig and hair accessories were prone to shifting during repeated squatting, leg-lifting, and posing, requiring me to check makeup and hair alignment constantly. This Anime cosplay photography experience made me realize that an exquisite cosplay creation requires not only high costume fidelity, but also unifying makeup, props, lighting, and poses into one cohesive force to restore the best physical texture of a 2D character's aura in reality.
