This Izutsumi cosplay at the Beijing ijoy Anime Convention was prepared several months in advance. The trimming and frizzy texture of the wig took a long time to process; to recreate that wild yet slightly lazy cat girl temperament, the hair ends were specially thinned out and layered. For the fur on the animal ears and tail, two different textures of faux fur were chosen, and the tail has a built-in bendable skeleton so it can drape or curl naturally during various crouching and twisting poses. As for the costume, the red-and-blue color-blocked wrist guards and scarf are made of slightly thick twill fabric, with a distressed treatment making the edges look more slice-of-life, while the brown jumper dress features a few metal side-release buckles to add a touch of techwear details. The shooting location this time was chosen in an empty exhibition area of the convention. The industrial-style gray concrete floor and the cool light sources from the ceiling perfectly toned down the high-saturation red and black color scheme of the outfit. Post-processing preserved the structural feel of the environment without excessively blurring the background. The hardest part during the shoot was maintaining the tension of the cat-claw hand shape while keeping the center of gravity stable. For instance, in the first shot with that one-legged bent-knee crouching pose, the core actually had to be held very tight, yet the facial expression needed to look relaxed, pretending to be "hunting." The photographer on-site took snapshots very quickly, getting the results in just a few takes. For characters with this kind of beast-like setting, the sharpness of the eyes is very important. I specially wore light-colored contact lenses, paired with upturned eyeliner, to bring the expression closer to the character's tsundere vibe. This set of convention photos didn't use many special effects, relying mainly on body language to shape the character, hoping to convey Izutsumi's contrasting charm of acting fierce on the surface while actually being not very aggressive in this cosplay photography session.
