After navigating the bustling floor of ChinaJoy, the photos for this Ellen Joe cosplay set are finally retouched! Recreating her signature black-and-pink highlighted hairstyle that day took nearly an hour of wig styling alone; the gradient transition and layers at the ends had to be distinct and feather-light, or else it would look far too bulky on camera. Wearing this black sleeveless high-neck tank top paired with a red-and-black jacket, the bold graffiti print across the chest is an absolute visual magnet, which, combined with the leather thigh straps, brings out an unmistakable techwear edge and street style. For the lower half, I opted for dark raw-hem denim shorts paired with semi-sheer White stockings and chunky platform dad sneakers—not only did this elongate body proportions, but it was also remarkably stable for running around an anime convention hall, with the stockings revealing a crisp, translucent texture under the lights.

Special thanks to Yadea for their vehicle support during the shoot; the motorcycle complemented this look seamlessly. I took shots with both the black and amber-yellow models—straddling the bike instantly transformed the entire character presence. Although holding the heavy prop firearm while posing was quite taxing—especially during the kneeling and extended-leg shots where balance had to be calibrated repeatedly to keep the lines elongated—it was totally worth the effort. The photographer used a Sony A7C2 paired with a Sigma 24-70mm lens, a focal range that proved exceptionally versatile amid the complex indoor lighting and tight spaces, delivering true-to-life color fidelity for the black, white, and red palette.

Lighting across the convention was intricate, alternating between bright yellow booth backdrops and dimmer industrial metal truss zones, with many areas heavily crowded. To find clean angles that bypassed the crowds, we took plenty of test shots at each spot. Rather than forcing a stereotypical fragile pose, the body language was designed to emphasize relaxed street rebellion—such as holding the gun in one hand with the other tucked into a pocket, or casually leaning against the motorcycle while brushing back hair, keeping the overall state effortless and natural. On site, cartoon signage warning against speeding paired with the bike props made for fantastic visual immersion.

Convention photography doesn't offer the luxury of fine-tuning every beam of light like a studio shoot; instead, it demands seizing the character's essence within limited time while highlighting garment details. For instance, wearing the jacket half-slung off the shoulders introduced an untamed layered look while showing off the neckline and shoulder contour. With bold color contrasts—black-and-red apparel against cool fair skin, framed by the rugged mechanical texture of the motorcycle—this set delivers a comprehensive visual recap of our ChinaJoy journey.
