Standing in knee-deep shallow water, I finally understood the miracle described in the post. On the day of the shoot, the wind was fierce, and the seabed was filled with mud and loose gravel, making it difficult to maintain a steady footing. To sustain this pose holding up the long staff prop, I had to constantly adjust my balance to avoid being knocked over by incoming waves. The long staff prop was far heavier than expected with a forward-heavy balance, severely testing my arm strength over long stretches. The photographer continually adjusted camera angles, attempting ultra-low-angle perspectives to capture the converging perspective formed by water ripples and gravel dykes, utilizing a wide-angle lens to stretch the sky expansively so the character blended seamlessly with heaven and earth. To catch the divine rays of light breaking through cloud gaps, we shot back and forth in this setting for quite a long time.
The post-processing for this set did not chase overly vivid colors, but rather retained the natural, organic murkiness of the water while deepening the cool blue tones of the sky, accentuating the blue-and-white garments and bright green wig on the character. Subtle cleanup was done on the stones and splashes in the frame while preserving genuine photographic grain. This grand, wide-angle composition that avoids forced facial expressions actually best captures the serene modesty of an Anime girl standing before the vastness of nature. During the shoot, the skirt became partially soaked and heavy, hindering movement; yet seeing the dreamy, halo-lit atmosphere in the final renders made every ounce of effort worthwhile.
Reflecting on scouting locations in pre-production, we deliberately sought out this site with vast open waters and rolling distant mountains, envisioning the grand imagery of parting the sea. Considering the world of Touhou Project and the unique divinity of Kochiya Sanae in summoning miracles, this styling and coordination were brought to life. The prop gestures aligned with the natural direction of the wind, achieving ideal visual tension. In this Waterscape photography and Beach cosplay setting, without stockings, my legs showed subtly beneath the long skirt, which, paired with the reflections across the water, created a refreshing visual aesthetic. This shoot reaffirmed that challenging natural environments often foster imagery with authentic, raw power. Without braving the mud and waves, it would have been impossible to convey that resolute steadfastness standing upon the sea, which remains the greatest takeaway from this photoshoot.
