Getting straight to the point, this blue-and-white dress is the highlight of this photoshoot. The dress features a three-tier design: the outer layer is a lightweight sheer tulle with white polka dots, lined with delicate lace trim along the edges; the middle layer is a translucent chiffon petticoat that ensures a naturally fluffy umbrella-like silhouette; and the innermost layer is a pure white lining, making it less prone to accidental exposure when running or jumping. Classic puff sleeves were used for the cuffs, adding to the overall cute aesthetic while beautifully flattering upper arm lines. The red bow on the chest serves as the visual color focus of the entire outfit; to prevent the color from appearing jarring, I specifically picked a satin material with subtle textures, forming a sharp warm-and-cool contrast with the light blue fabric. The waist tie design allows for adjustability, which not only outlines the waistline but also adds a touch of flowing elegance with its draping ribbons.
Beyond the outfit, the most eye-catching part of this look is undeniably those floating crystal prism props. These polyhedrons are made of thick acrylic with holographic films attached to the surface, allowing them to refract rainbow-like luster under different light angles. To create the floating illusion of these crystals in the air during filming, we tried various fixing methods, ultimately choosing transparent fishing line to anchor them to the bow knot behind my back and on my clothing, which required removing some visible lines frame-by-frame during post-processing. Though the process was tedious, the iridescent effects these props displayed under outdoor sunlight were genuinely delightful.
As for the wig, I selected a light blue heat-resistant fiber wig with abundant hair volume and a very clear tone. To recreate the character's fluffy and light short hair feel, I used a crimping iron to volumize the bottom layers, then smoothed the outer layer with a flat iron to achieve this airy hairstyle. The large bow knot atop my head was custom-patterned with sturdy material and edged with a ring of lace, ensuring it maintained its full shape even under outdoor breezes. Makeup focused on creating a clear, flawless base, paired with enlarging blue-purple contact lenses to make my gaze appear more ethereal. Eye makeup didn't intentionally elongate, focusing instead on enlarging eye shape combined with highlights and natural flush to showcase the character's innocent yet energetic disposition.
The shooting environment that day was a wild flower meadow in the suburbs, with bright, almost dazzling sunlight. Shooting under intense noon sunlight genuinely tests lighting technique, as slight carelessness leaves unflattering facial shadows. To overcome overhead light issues, the photographer repeatedly adjusted positions using a large silver reflector, sometimes even requiring me to lie semi-reclined on the grass to capture natural light reflected onto my cheeks. The surrounding natural environment added much charm to the character—purple wildflowers and lush green grass paired with the outfit's blue-and-white tones presented a deeply harmonious vitality.
In terms of posture and movement, I tried to embody the innocent confidence of Gensokyo's \"strongest fairy.\" Although set as a \"baka,\" that pure tsundere charm and cuteness were the core we wanted to capture. During the shoot, I used poses like raising one arm upward, spinning while holding the skirt, and direct front snapshots. The large skirt hem of this dress was perfect for dynamic movement, forming beautiful waves when spinning. To capture natural expressions, we essentially caught moments amidst continuous running and jumping.
It's worth mentioning the complexity of this gear—lace along the bottom of the skirt easily snagged dry grass, requiring careful cleaning on the side after every set of photos. However, seeing the glowing crystals, flowing skirt, and clean, translucent skin tone in the final pictures made all the tedious preparations feel thoroughly worth it. Post-processing focused on restoring natural daylight textures, preserving skin weave without excessive smoothing, hoping to showcase character beauty while retaining the authentic light and shadow atmosphere of Outdoor cosplay photography.
