[Sakuya Izayoi cosplay] The Perfect and Elegant Maid Chief in Touhou Project

This shoot was for Sakuya Izayoi, the maid chief known for her elegant and sharp presence in Touhou Project. When I got the costume, I was instantly stunned by its details—dark blue patterned fabric paired with large expanses of white lace, with intricate ruffle layers on the collar and sleeve cuffs that required carefully arranging each fold during fitting to hold the silhouette. The wig was silver-white, styled into two braided pigtails; to fit her temperament, I intentionally kept some stray hairs when trimming the bangs so a gentle breeze would create a natural flowing motion. For makeup, light blue contact lenses were chosen to match her eye color, while eyeshadow used low-saturation champagne pink and light purple, paired with a matte peach lip color to keep the look clean, crisp, and uncluttered, fitting her cool yet composed composure. The prop was a silver-gray metallic hairpin decorated with blue flowers on top, which effortlessly achieved an elegant hold when spun around in hand.

To highlight the outfit's layers during the shoot, I specifically chose a skirt-lifting posture, making the contrast between the dark blue skirt hem and white lace apron more 3D, while naturally showcasing the white garter stockings and leg lines. The indoor lighting was soft, with side window light creating natural rim lighting on hair strands, enhancing the delicate texture of lace and bows. The biggest challenge for this maid outfit was the intricate frills on the apron and positioning the bow—the jewel buckle encrusted on the dark green satin bow served as the visual center for the chest area, so I had to ensure the bow remained straight when adjusting my posture. Having done cosplay many times before, slipping into a specific character's attire still sparks a fresh impulse to perform.

The white garter stockings were chosen in a slightly sheer material; paired with the garter design, it both aligns with the traditional aesthetic of a maid outfit and visually elongates the leg lines. Angle control was key when squatting while lifting the skirt to prevent the hem from covering too much of the legs. Throughout the shoot, I kept adjusting my breathing and gaze—Sakuya Izayoi conveys agility mixed with subtle nonchalance, requiring a relaxed face with a focused gaze. This balance is actually harder to capture than simply posing cool. For headwear, the lace trim on the headband complemented the braided pigtails behind, giving a full head contour from the side view.

Many details were discovered during fitting, such as the puffy bubble sleeve design that naturally flared out when raising my arms, offering dynamic photography angles. The costume's texture shimmered subtly under natural light, especially the dark blue areas which were neither solid black nor pure blue, carrying a vintage composure. Rather than pursuing extravagant backdrops, a simple home environment made the character feel closer to an everyday calm, reflecting her low-key yet meticulously attentive personality. The visual contrast between white stockings and dark skirt hems is a favorite capture for many maid cosplay enthusiasts, so I chose this skirt-lifting shot as the cover since it presents structural completeness without letting leg elements overpower the frame, keeping overall proportions balanced.

Speaking of details, pearl buttons on the collar and lace stitching on the chest made every handcrafted seam enhance the outfit's texture. The braided pigtail ends of the wig were tightly woven so they wouldn't unravel even during large movements. The prop-holding photo showcased accessory refinement, but a full-body shot served better as a direct cover image. Doing cosplay is not merely recreating a look, but a brief journey into a character's aura—putting on these clothes and regulating my breath, my movements naturally slowed down, treating every detail as meticulously as handling fine tableware. Without extra backdrop boards, light direction and skirt drape spoke volumes. The finalized set avoided heavy editing, retaining authentic skin and garment textures so viewers can truly appreciate the innate beauty of this maid outfit.
