[Komeiji Koishi Cosplay] Touhou Project: Encountering a Mint Green Afternoon in a Vintage Piano Room

When shooting the character Komeiji Koishi, I especially wanted to capture that sense of lightness and alien aura belonging to a summer forest. As a character who possesses the ability of unconsciousness in her lore, I hope to convey through the frame that quality of seemingly drifting between reality and fantasy, being both intimate and carrying a touch of mysterious distance.

The most satisfying part of wearing this outfit was none other than that mint green short wig. Its layering and lightness perfectly aligned with my imagination of an anime character, and paired with that wide-brimmed straw hat with distressed edges, the agility of the overall look was brought out instantly. This dress utilized dark brown and olive green matte velvet fabrics, which are truly heavy and textured, and paired with the white tulle at the neckline and cuffs as well as the layered ruffles, it carries a rich European vintage forest vibe, showing off an elegant Lolita style. The chest is also paired with a cyan gemstone pendant and a purple spherical plush hanger; these crowning small accessories add a bit of layering and playfulness to the originally large area of solid-colored skirt. This represents a perfect execution of Anime cosplay.

The scene for this shoot was truly a huge plus—a vintage wooden piano room filled with greenery. Venetian blinds are installed in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, and the afternoon sunshine filters obliquely through the gaps of the blinds, casting mottled and interlaced light and shadow on the dark green palm leaves in the corner and the white flowers sprawling on the wall. Shooting in such a natural light-abundant environment, the skin texture also appears exceptionally translucent and delicate. This highlights the magic of Cosplay photography.

I especially love the feeling of sitting beside that old wooden piano, with scattered sheet music placed above the keys, making my whole self seem to merge into one with the vintage furniture. The shoot was actually a little bit exhausting because the skirt hem was exceptionally puffy; during sitting poses and movements, the orientation of the skirt hem had to be repeatedly arranged to perfectly display those exquisite wrapped ruffled pleats before the lens. Especially the details of putting on and taking off shoes, adjusting the white lace short socks and black Mary Jane shoes, made the entire shoot process full of a sense of achievement. During the shooting process, I also held a small round mirror as a prop, as if combing through my own thoughts or searching for something; this process of interacting with myself instead made it easier for me to substitute into the character's perspective.

Actually, sitting in a room packed with green plants, one can smell the fresh fragrance of soil and vegetation; this immersive environmental experience is something a photography studio cannot provide. To capture this raw ecological greenery, a lot of thought was actually spent behind the scenes to arrange these ferns and vines. I hope that the ultimate presentation is not just a restoration of the character's appearance, but also that maidenly temperament living in the depths of a tranquil forest. This set of cuts did not deliberately design any large-scene dynamics; it mostly features quiet, casual, and slightly lazy sitting poses. The light and shadow in every photo beautifully combine the weight of the dress with the character's lightweight physique. Since I didn't want to destroy this peaceful atmosphere, I especially hope to showcase a Komeiji Koishi who is like a forest elf to everyone through this set of frames. Whether it is that gentle light, the intricate skirt hem, or a certain casual gaze, I hope it can bring you a quiet and beautiful visual experience. This stands as a memorable piece of Komeiji Koishi cosplay.
