This photo set is a concrete representation of the complex contradictions within the character. She may look somewhat innocent and cute on the outside, but inside she is actually clearer and more perceptive than anyone else. Therefore, I deliberately added some toughness and tension to this shoot, moving beyond just the cute side.
Working with Teacher Jianbing this time, we locked in a cold, hard texture under neon urban nightscapes during early discussions. When I saw this old yellow taxi and the street full of red lanterns during the location shoot, it just felt so right. The warm tones of the red lanterns and the blue-purple neon light from the store signs on both sides of the street created a strong cold-warm contrast within the frame. This high-contrast lighting wonderfully sets off the atmosphere of a character lingering in the dark yet controlling everything.
In terms of clothing selection, this time I paired a black military-style outfit featuring golden fringe epaulets and piping with a white shirt and a bright red tie. This combination gave the upper body a neat, crisp uniform feel. For the lower body, a pink ruffled tutu and pure white short socks paired with brown loafers were chosen, cleverly retaining the character's girlish undertones. Visually, the overall styling is both edgy and handsome without losing the character's original charming cuteness.
The prop is a black toy handgun. I didn't deliberately show it off all the time; instead, through various posture transitions, I sought a rhythm of being ready to draw at any moment while remaining relaxed and composed. During the kneeling on one knee, standing grip, and turning-to-aim processes, I intentionally infused a bit of coolness into my gaze. Especially in those sets of shots standing on top of the car, the field of view suddenly opened up, with the background escalators and storefront signs blurring into colorful bokeh. Holding the gun and looking straight ahead, that effortless sense of oppression naturally exuded.
During the shoot, perhaps because the nightscape atmosphere was so immersive, it genuinely made me feel like I was that rabbit who seals the moon rabbit deep in her heart while presenting only the facade of the Buddha rabbit to the world. In fact, no matter how she disguises her appearance, beneath that simple protective coloration, she is already a chess player who has locked down the grand game. Teacher Jianbing excels at capturing instantaneous motion; candid shots like hair blown by the wind and the pleats of clothing swaying during turns were precisely preserved by the lens.
This set of photos not only presents the character's appearance, but also attempts to restore that inner calmness and unfathomable sense of crisis. I have always had a strong desire for expression regarding such dark-contrast stylings, and this attempt to shape a gun-wielding girl with a story amidst neon nightscapes fully met my expectations for this setting. The photographer's framing and lighting fit the theme exceptionally well, using the complex neon streets as a background to clearly outline the character's silhouette, filling the entire set with storytelling. Even in the noisy outdoor environment late at night, once entering the shooting state, one is unconsciously swept along by this immersive atmosphere.
