This photoshoot features Hata no Kokoro from Touhou Project. The overall preparation cycle took longer than anticipated, particularly coordinating the layers of the costume and styling the wig, which underwent multiple iterative adjustments to reach a satisfying finish. To align with the character's persona, extensive work went into the makeup: I wore pinkish-purple cosmetic contacts, while low-saturation pink eyeshadow was diffused across the lids, accented with fine shimmer on the lower lash line and deepened with dark brown at the outer corners to elongate the eyes. Natural false eyelashes were applied alongside a defined eyeliner to give the gaze greater clarity. The blush was applied fairly generously, concentrated over the apples of the cheeks and beneath the eyes, while highlighter on the nose tip and chin accentuated facial dimensionality. A dewy, coral-pink lip tint unified the warm tones of the makeup.

The wig was a voluminous long straight Pink hair piece. The bangs were trimmed straight across and given a gentle curve with a flat iron for an organic drape. A slender red cord was tied at the crown as a hair accessory, creating a striking contrast against the pale pink strands. To keep the hair sleek and smooth, hair conditioner spray was applied prior to shooting to tame stray flyaways.

The layering of the outfit is remarkably rich. The outermost layer is a teal-blue checkered shirt with golden-brown metallic-textured borders across the shoulders, worn over a blue high-neck undergarment. The chest area features densely tiered fabrics printed with traditional Japanese style patterns woven in gold and beige. The thick ribbon bow required meticulous shaping to maintain a full, sculpted silhouette. Braided red cords and tassels hang down the front, swaying gently with every step. In my hands, I held a white-and-red Fox mask featuring crimson ears, eye contours, and cheek markings with clean painted lines, finished with woven red cord knots and a delicate brass bell at the base. A slightly larger matching fox mask was worn pinned to the side of the head, its red-and-white palette catching the eye instantly.

The shoot was staged in a traditional indoor setting featuring Japanese shoji paper sliding doors and red wooden pillars, where the wooden lattice and washi paper provided rich texture to the background. Key frontal lighting was primarily used so the facial makeup and soft pink wig tones rendered with crisp clarity. Experimenting with varied angles revealed that turning the face slightly to a three-quarter profile worked best, welcoming both the mask details and the complex garments into the frame. Holding the mask close to the chest or resting it beside the cheek created a natural, balanced posture. Because of the broad shoulder tailoring, holding an upright back posture was essential to support the garment's geometric silhouette. The red cords and bell accents tied the scene together, echoing the crimson brushwork on the masks.

The entire shoot went very smoothly; the tactile textures of the fabric, the craftsmanship of the props, and the Japanese style staging harmonized seamlessly. Cosplay is never simply about putting on clothes—it encompasses the entire journey of crafting makeup, props, and scenic ambiance with care. Capturing these results makes the long preparation thoroughly worthwhile, delivering a deeply satisfying tribute to Hata no Kokoro.
