[Kasugano Sora cosplay] The gentleness in Yosuga no Sora, the afternoon sunlight at Firefly ACG Expo

On this day at the outdoor area of the Firefly ACG Expo in Guangzhou, the lighting conditions were truly perfect. When I was planning this JK look for the Kasugano Sora cosplay, I wanted to find an outdoor environment like this with sunlight and a lawn. The original indoor stage lighting was too chaotic, so this time we specially picked the green space next to the exhibition hall. The sunlight happened to filter through the gaps in the leaves, and paired with the off-white long-sleeved shirt I was wearing and the dark plaid pleated skirt, the overall layers of color really stood out.

When doing this character, the styling details are actually very important. For the wig, I chose smooth long straight white hair, and the black twin-tail ribbons on both sides are the finishing touch, creating a strong visual contrast with the pure white hair color—classic without looking too monotonous. For the makeup, the eye makeup used a slightly reddish-brown eyeshadow blend to make the gaze look gentler. Paired with the long white hair, it indeed easily brings out that unique anime-like hollow yet slightly coquettish feel.

The grey plush rabbit in my hand was also a key prop for this shoot. Sometimes it's hard to fully convey the character's relaxed feeling at home relying solely on expressions and eye contact, but once I held this rabbit and sat down on a random step, my movements became very natural. Whether sitting obediently with the rabbit held to my chest, extending both legs forward like in the photos, or directly raising the rabbit over my head with one hand, these actions not only have a strong sense of interaction but also nicely shape the body lines.

During the shoot, to achieve a better photo outcome, besides sitting, I also tried different angles. Especially the posture of sitting upright and extending my legs forward, which really tests the silhouette of the JK uniform. Since we had to take care of showing the black tights and leg lines, the photographer helped find an excellent focusing angle, shooting from a slight high-angle to make the legs look more slender. The black tights combined with these thick-heeled loafers inherently provide a great sense of extension. Under the illumination of the light, the legs have a very delicate reflection, which is neither too oily nor loses the sweet characteristics belonging to the character.

The crowd flow at the convention site was actually very large, and there were many other photographers and passersby around. In order to take this set of photos, the photographer and I spent a lot of thought waiting for suitable gaps and angles. The stone path on the lawn counted as a good place to shoot; the composition is clean, and it can simulate the feeling of a campus or home, removing a lot of visual clutter. During post-processing, we intentionally kept the halo and light spots of the natural environment and did not over-smooth the skin. We just wanted to maintain this realistic and soft light and shadow, unlike many convention photos that look very disconnected from reality. This cosplay photo sharing captures that perfectly.

Regarding this set of photos, there was actually a small episode. Because the breeze blew the wig that day, it sometimes drifted onto my face and affected my vision and expression. But instead, this accidental snapshot gave the frame a sort of vivid breathing room. The combination of low-saturation colors like black, white, grey, and brown, paired with the cool tone of the white hair, is visually very comfortable, which indeed matches the temperament of the character Kasugano Sora herself. Whether it's the tranquility of sitting on the steps or the playfulness facing the lens, they are all different interpretations of this character's personality.

These few images count as one of my more satisfying outdoor works at this Firefly ACG Expo. It's not just a simple pile-up of ACG elements, but leans more toward showing the life atmosphere and quiet beauty that this character should originally possess in a daily-life setting. This kind of shoot, which retains a sense of reality without losing the character's original setting, is actually much more durable than standard photos taken under harsh indoor lighting at anime conventions.
