Today, I shot the cosplay photoshoot of Hifumi Ajitani from Blue Archive on a river-crossing bridge. Checking the weather forecast before heading out, I knew it would be a clear day, so I purposely chose the time slot from noon to afternoon, hoping to capture that bright, transparent Japanese aesthetic. Once on site, I realized the wind on the bridge was much stronger than expected, and the sunlight was exceptionally harsh, but fortunately, the thick cloud cover in the sky occasionally acted as a natural soft diffuser. This outfit looks simple, but it actually has many details. The loose white coat has a subtle sheen under the sunlight, and the decorative printed lines on the zipper and collar are very clear. The inner sailor collar is dark blue, forming a striking color contrast with the bright yellow-orange large bow. To restore the character's body proportions, the lower half is paired with a dark blue pleated skirt and black Stockings. The white lace and floral print on the edge of the pleated skirt are extremely delicate, and the arc of the skirt looks lovely when walking and turning. For shoes, I chose white platform sneakers, which fit the school style and made walking relatively easy. The most special props are the halo on top of my head and that white plush doll backpack; the halo required a specific angle to hover naturally, and the pink ears on the backpack added a lot of playfulness to the overall look. When shooting, composition for this bridge scene required some thinking. Since the bridge body is made entirely of white steel bars and railings with many lines, if the angle wasn't found properly, the frame would look very cluttered. We tried using medium-to-long telephoto lenses to compress the background, and also tried low-angle shots from the diagonal side of the bridge deck. Low-angle shots not only avoided the messy traffic signs behind but also framed a large area of blue sky and white clouds into the background. A few shots deliberately used railings or road signs as foreground blur to increase the sense of depth in the frame. In fact, when shooting large scenes, lighting is the hardest thing to control. When sunlight hits directly, shadows on the face can be exceptionally heavy. Fortunately, the black Stockings and the white coat formed a clear contrast between light and shade; during exposure, priority was given to preserving the highlights while allowing the dark areas to retain some details, making the final photos look softer. Also, the hair blown by the wind, though a bit unruly, actually added a lot of dynamic feel. Playing the role of Hifumi Ajitani, I didn't deliberately strike too many exaggerated poses. Her personality is naturally gentle, so my eyes and posture were kept in a natural and relaxed state as much as possible. For example, looking back while holding the railing, slightly bowing the head to adjust the bowtie, or simply standing by the bridge looking into the distance. Sometimes the wind blowing the hair messy turned into the most vivid moment. I always feel that cosplay is not just about putting on clothes, but also needing to get close to the character's living habits and action traits in details. For example, wearing the backpack properly, adjusting the position of the halo, and even the stride when walking all need to match that student vibe of being both quiet and full of vitality. The entire shoot lasted for a few hours, walking from one end of the bridge to the other, finding many different angles and lighting conditions. Although I was a bit tired when wrapping up, looking through the album, I felt that the sunlight, clouds, and scenery on the bridge that day complemented this outfit just right. This outdoor shooting experience also gave me a new understanding of light and scene coordination, and I look forward to taking these experiences to more interesting places for shooting in the future.
