This time, I shot a RO-Ji cosplay set inside an ASUS ROG themed esports room. To complement this environment teeming with sci-fi tech and competitive gaming energy, both the styling and wardrobe were meticulously prepped. Upon finalizing the shoot plan, I carefully analyzed the garment details to determine how best to unleash its dynamic vitality before the lens.
The hair was styled as a short black cut with vibrant crimson highlights, topped with metallic black cat ears that mirrored the overall red-and-black palette. The makeup incorporated red contact lenses and matching red lips, while the eyeshadow featured deep reddish-brown blending to deliver an intense visual punch against the cool-toned computer rig background. A high-contrast red-and-black pairing demands flawless base makeup, which had to be applied solidly to retain clear translucency under harsh ambient lighting.
The outfit featured a black halter crop top accented with red contour lines and the iconic ROG eye logo, with a center front zipper reinforcing its functional utility. Over this was draped an oversized red-and-black color-blocked jacket with clear patches on the sleeves printed with 'GAMER'; wearing it half-slid off the arms broke up the stiffness of the tight tank top, adding relaxed dynamism to the frame. The bottom paired a black mini skirt spliced with mesh panels, cinched at the waist with red-and-black leather belts, metal chains, and tactical straps for multi-dimensional layering. The legs were accented with black thigh rings and Fishnet stockings, finished with chunky red-and-black platform sneakers. Slipping into this gear instantly gave me a surge of assertive confidence, naturally prompting bold, expressive poses—especially crossing or propping up a leg to accentuate leg lines and the overarching techwear aesthetic.
For gear, we used a Fujifilm X-S10 paired with a 27mm F1.2 lens. In this compact space, that focal length proved ideal, framing the illuminated gaming rig and monitors while keeping the subject crisply isolated. The creamy bokeh from the wide aperture softened messy cables and gear in the backdrop while preserving tack-sharp detail on the subject. During the session, I explored diverse angles: standing, seated, and resting a leg directly onto the PC chassis. Utilizing the PC case as a physical prop provided support for complex poses while using its RGB fan lighting to heighten the futuristic atmosphere.
The gaming room's RGB lighting—particularly the red glow from the case and the blue ambient backlight—injected incredible mood into the scene. The dominant cool-toned setting provided a striking contrast against my warm red-and-black attire, creating rich three-dimensional pop. In post-processing, shadow details were preserved to let the lighting effects shine, avoiding heavy skin smoothing to retain authentic, tactile skin texture.
Throughout the shoot, photographer Niu Niu guided my poses, capturing numerous candid, powerful moments. Because this outfit incorporates extensive straps and belts, posing involved slight physical constriction, yet those very details cemented the character's functional aesthetic. Adjusting stances helped me dial into the best postures—straightening my spine and tucking my chin to sharpen the neck and shoulder lines. Heartfelt thanks to Niu Niu for the artistic direction and post-processing, seamlessly fusing ROG's hardcore gaming spirit with cyberpunk flair. What do you all think of this red-and-black Techwear outfit?
