Red curtains, suspended golden threads, and arms riddled with mechanical joints—the set design for this shoot aimed to recreate the fatalistic aura of a marionette. Before shooting, I had extensive discussions with the photographer, wanting to use a black-and-red palette and warm candlelight to accentuate the character's cold, rigid, and manipulated nature. When initially posing, to convey that stiff, out-of-control sensation, I deliberately distributed uneven tension across my joints; for instance, in Photo 1, my arm stretches upward, following the pull of the prop strings to accommodate the camera composition. Wearing this red-and-black cloak paired with White stockings and ruffled heeled ankle boots, finding my balance amidst the floor covered in red fabric, gears, and candles was quite demanding—a slight misstep could mean tripping over cloth or snagging on suspended strings. During the shoot, the photographer had an assistant gently pull the hanging mechanical arms while I struck a submissive pose; rather than flaunting ornate aesthetics, capturing an expressionless, fragile brokenness of being manipulated was far more crucial. That hollow, vacant gaze was accurately caught by the lens. In front of the red curtain, complemented by scattered cool-white candles and a wisp of smoke cake haze, the theatrical stage presence emerged immediately. Regarding the costume, to match the doll motif, the outfit featured a color-blocked design with gold buttons, a red-and-white lining, and lace ribbons along the skirt. The addition of White stockings significantly brightened the overall palette while elongating leg proportions, seamlessly fitting this Dark Gothic style aesthetic. Photo 3 was the most physically exhausting: holding both arms outstretched while jointing fingers to mimic unnatural, stiff contortions, keeping the entire body tense like a marionette—surrounded by scattered gears and suspended robotic limbs, as if possessed by an invisible force. Maintaining this contorted extension tested physical stamina immensely; my arms began trembling within three minutes. Photo 2 shows my resting state when sitting down—head lowered, hands folded across my knees, motionless like a powered-down puppet, serving as the perfect calm contrast to the intense exertion of Photo 3. Posing continuously left me so drained that I ended up slumping onto the set floor, which organically complemented the vibe of being abandoned in a puppet theater. From lighting to prop placement, the entire scene was thoughtfully crafted: the metallic textures of the mechanical arms and gears conveyed substantial weight under warm light, contrasting against the light fabrics of my costume. This shoot gave me fresh insights into using body language to sculpt character depth. Hope these visual effects convey that unique, haunting tranquility of the character.
