The Cifera I cosplayed this time at the Shenzhen Anime Festival is a character I really like in Honkai: Star Rail. The Jazz Noble Cat theme has a lot of details in its clothing design worth exploring. The most eye-catching part of this outfit is the blue hood with cat ears, featuring a golden metal accessory right in the front, edged with blue gems. To match this setting, the wig was chosen as a silver-grey short style, paired with blue circle lenses, hoping to capture that cool yet slightly wild feel of the character.
The top is made of a black glossy material, very form-fitting and somewhat stiff, which restricts some large movements of the upper body once worn. The neckline is a deep V design, paired with a white inner lining and a black choker. Black sleeve covers are worn on the arms with white ruffles at the cuffs, and golden fake nails are attached to the fingerless gloves. A small blue square bag is hung on the waist side, which can hold some touch-up essentials.
The visual center of gravity for the lower body mainly lies in the asymmetrical design. The skirt hem features a blue, black, and gold color scheme with golden lines along the edges. White stockings are worn on the legs, overlaid with golden metallic-textured leg armor, and golden high-heeled boots are on the feet. This pairing looks fantastic visually, but wearing it is not easy. Both the leg armor and boots have a certain weight and need to be fixed to the legs with straps, creating a noticeable binding sensation after wearing them for a long time. To present better proportions in the photos, I try to walk as little as possible during breaks. In terms of props, that fluffy large tail with a white base and black tip is a very crucial accessory. The tail has a wire skeleton inside, allowing it to be shaped into various forms.
The lighting at the venue on the shooting day was relatively dark, and Teacher Yue Shen used lighting to highlight the texture of the glossy clothes and golden armor on my body. To match this styling, we designed several poses. For example, a single-knee squat pose with the tail bending upwards can showcase the vigilance of a feline; a lunge squat pose is meant to elongate leg lines and show the details of the white stockings and golden leg armor. The group sitting on the folding ladder mainly aims to create an atmosphere of composure mixed with a bit of laziness. While performing these actions, I need to constantly pay attention to the position of the tail to avoid it being pressed down by the body or blocking the details of the leg armor. The golden ring prop in my hand also played a role in balancing the frame in different poses.
Regarding wig styling, the silver-grey short hair needs to maintain a fluffy feel, and the front bangs shouldn't be too thick to avoid blocking the line of sight and affecting the presentation of the blue circle lenses. Before shooting, I spent a lot of time adjusting the angle of the cat-ear hood to ensure it presents the most three-dimensional shape in front of the lens. The overall style blends the flambuoyance of jazz with the craftiness of a cat, so in my expression management, I tried to minimize overly dramatic emotional expressions, conveying information more through my gaze and slightly curved fingers. For instance, in hand close-ups, the metallic decoration on the fingertips reflecting light is also part of showing character details.
Since the leg armor is made of rigid material, squatting and lunging actions actually require strong core strength support, and after shooting each pose, I needed to slightly adjust the strap positions to ensure the lines in front of the lens were smooth. The convention atmosphere on-site was great; although people were coming and going around us, once entering the shooting state, I could concentrate quickly. This Jazz Noble Cat styling of Cifera from Honkai: Star Rail features very striking color contrast, with black, gold, blue, and white colors colliding together, retaining both a sci-fi feel and the agility of a feline character. This shoot at the Shenzhen Anime Festival had a very tight overall rhythm. From makeup and styling to prop arrangement and cooperation with the photographer, every step tested my understanding of the character setting. Although Cifera's outfit is heavy, the luster and texture presented under the lens are truly worth it. Being able to bring Cifera into reality in the form of cosplay has been a wonderful experience.
