The outfit of Fatui Harbinger Marionette (Sandrone) in Genshin Impact possesses a highly recognizable color collision of red, black, and white. This shoot was set in a vintage-style indoor study, where wooden bookshelves and ornate grandfather clock props grounded the entire set's texture in a retro, gorgeous tone. Regarding costume, a white ruffled hairpiece combined with long golden hair, alongside a black high-collar choker embellished with red and gold accents at the neck, delivered rich depth under warm lighting. Independent sleeve covers in black-and-white color-blocking, paired with a black corset featuring gold patterns and inlaid rubies at the waist, rendered the overall contour strikingly sharp.
In terms of detail, special emphasis was placed on matching the gloves with white over-the-knee stockings. The white stockings feature delicate ruffles along the top edge, echoing the layered black-and-white structure of the skirt hem seamlessly. Since similar stockings often wrinkle or slide down at the knees during daily wear, safety pins were used for fixing prior to shooting, ensuring fluid lines whether standing or sitting throughout the process. The footwear paired was a set of black-and-red color-blocked chunky platform heels, a silhouette offering both retro flair and visual elongation for lower leg proportions, highlighting a graceful leg line in seated and reclining poses when combined with white thigh-highs. For makeup, blue-purple colored contact lenses were chosen alongside clean eye makeup to focus on capturing profound eye depth.
Wig styling was one of the toughest challenges for this shoot, particularly the braided side branches, which required repeated angle adjustments before shooting to ensure they maintained a full shape during dynamic poses without appearing loose. During shooting, the photographer skillfully leveraged backlighting and lens flare effects. Light penetrating through gaps in the set created a soft halo around hair strands and shoulders, perfectly softening the character's naturally aloof sense of detachment. Multiple poses were tested to interpret this character: sitting on a wooden crate showcased leg contours and shoe-stocking pairing better; this low-angle seated pose required tightening core waist muscles to keep the corset's metal patterns visually sharp.
Standing beside the wooden desk or leaning on the bookshelf aimed more at pairing with background grandfather clocks and books, cultivating an atmosphere enveloped by a vintage study in Anime-style photography. Regarding prop synergy, scattered books on the floor, gold-framed photo frames nearby, and the grandfather clock behind aligned impeccably with the character setting. Extensive dark wood grain backgrounds provided a stark contrast to the large white areas on the costume, focusing visual attention sharply. I also deliberately controlled facial expressions during shooting, keeping an unflustered, subtle expression most of the time while introducing playful interactions in select frames—like winking or giving a one-handed peace sign—allowing the character to retain opulent grandeur without feeling entirely emotionless.
Throughout shooting, adjusting the placement of the suitcase and photo frames back and forth took considerable time—ensuring foreground occlusion and depth without obscuring leg lines required repeated attempts at compositional balance. A great set of cosplay photos relies not only on makeup, hair, and costume accuracy, but also heavily on synergy between venue lighting and the model. Capturing frames in such a realistic environment felt like experiencing a quiet slice of time belonging to Marionette (Sandrone). Although set lighting was somewhat complex, the moment the shutter clicked, freezing light, shadow, and character demeanor made all the effort genuinely worthwhile. From costume preparation to on-site adjustments, polishing every detail ultimately defined the final visual presentation of these photos.
