[Misumi Uika cosplay] BanG Dream! Stage: Sumimi Duo in Concert

Standing on the Guangzhou Bang Only stage once again after an entire year to perform in Sumimi's iconic idol stage costume stirred up a rush of deep emotions. Looking back to a year ago when I first fell into this hobby at Diwang Plaza, I was a total novice who had just bought a camera and couldn't even configure basic exposure settings for live stage portraits—every shot turned out either blurry or blown out. Over the past year, following the 'Fox-Cat duo' through countless events, I evolved from someone who simply clicked the shutter to someone capable of freezing dynamic live moments with surgical precision, even adjusting shooting angles and metering modes on the fly according to changing stage lights; I can truly feel myself growing step by step. The greatest hurdle in stage photography lies in unpredictable illumination: the cold glare of blue LED screens easily washes skin tones into muddy gray, demanding constant vigilance over white balance and exposure compensation. Finally capturing this long-awaited set feels like an honest answer to all the dedication poured in along the way.

The costume design is rich in layered craftsmanship. For the dark-haired member, the styling features a sleeveless white blouse paired with a slim black tie, cinched by a black leather corset; the asymmetrical gray-and-black spliced miniskirt blooms dynamically with every dance step, while the golden waist chain catches the stage spotlights with brilliant glints. For the blonde member, a sleeveless black top is paired with a crisp white tie, anchored by a broad white waist belt and a flowing gray-and-black spliced maxi skirt, radiating crisp, sleek poise. Styling and maintaining the wigs required immense care: the blunt bangs of the sleek dark hair needed to maintain an exact curve, while the blonde hair was textured to provide the airy volume essential for live performances. To prevent features from flattening under the lens, we deepened our makeup—particularly eye definition and structural contouring—to hold up against the cold blue starry LED screens and harsh spotlights. On stage, every spin and arm raise set the skirt hems and metallic chains in motion; capturing these fleeting kinetic details was the key focus we coordinated repeatedly with our photographer.

The backdrop was an immense blue LED screen broadcasting vivid cartoon graphics, musical notes, and starry motifs, which, paired with the drum kit flanking the edge of the stage, maxed out the authentic live atmosphere. We choreographed a wealth of onstage interactions: back-to-back poses, locking gazes, pointing toward the sky, along with signature heart signs and cheerful waves. These gestures had to sync seamlessly with the musical rhythm while catering to diverse lens angles below the stage. Microphone placement, body angles, and the flare of swirling skirts were all polished through round after round of rehearsal. The drum set served not merely as a background prop, but as an indispensable anchor in our framing, granting the entire composition the gritty immersion and visual impact of a real live concert. For instance, when standing in profile, the metallic stands and drum skins created compelling depth of field, looking absolutely stunning against the soft blue halo.

Evolving from initial stage fright to genuinely relishing the spotlight, the unspoken chemistry with my partner has grown effortlessly deep. Sometimes words are unnecessary; a single glance communicates what the next move will be, and that sensation of vibrating on the exact same frequency on stage is truly priceless. Every listen to Sumimi's discography reveals fresh layers of emotion, and hearing those tracks on stage today granted us an even deeper personal interpretation. From the uncertainty of a year ago to today's calm poise, what the stage and these characters bring me extends far beyond the joy of wrapping a good shoot—it is the unshakable confidence of standing before the camera. Seriously, Bushiroad, won't you consider giving Sumimi a couple more songs? This stage costume packs so much expressive presence; I want to shoot it a hundred, a thousand more times, documenting every angle and every spotlight cast upon this Fox-Cat pair.
