[Hanayo Koizumi cosplay] Idol stage costume shoot under a 15th anniversary balloon set

To celebrate the 15th anniversary, venue rental and balloon decorations cost 3k in total. Setting it all up ourselves made us realize how tough that work really is—it took a few of us a solid three hours just to assemble the scene. Considering the gymnasium's wooden floor and black protective wall mats as the base palette, we opted for vibrant, highly saturated orange and yellow balloons, accented with white flower-shaped balloons for brightness. Giant number balloons '1' and '5' along with the letters 'US' were placed at the center, flanked by cake-shaped and 'Happy Birthday' foil balloons to create a lively, festive visual impact.

Since the venue was quite far, this trip felt like a true expedition. The gymnasium lighting was rather tricky; the direct overhead lights were quite harsh, requiring us to constantly adjust our standing positions or rely heavily on reflectors to bounce light onto our faces to prevent heavy facial shadows. The costume is rich in detail: a crisp white base accented by oversized green sequin bows, substantial metal chains and badges on the chest, and translucent wings at the back that created gorgeous dynamic flair whenever I turned. Trimming and styling the wig took considerable effort; keeping the star hair accessory pinned securely and naturally required plenty of hairspray and bobby pins.

Wardrobe-wise, the white thigh-high stockings were the trickiest item. The delicate fabric snags easily, meaning putting them on and taking them off required utmost care, making sure my fingertips had no rough edges. To match the overall look, I also wore white gloves—while gorgeous, they made operating phone touchscreens nearly impossible for selfies, meaning I often had to slip them off or repeatedly jab the screen through the cloth. Face makeup was embellished with tiny star glitter that shimmered with every slight tilt in front of the lens.

During the session, I posed with several fellow cosplayers. Although everyone wore the same idol stage costume in different character colorways, standing together produced a wonderfully vibrant palette. From solo full-body shots and duo selfies to the final nine-member group photo, coordinating the whole sequence tested our physical endurance. Posing required careful attention to the flare angle of the skirts, the extension of leg lines, and the positioning of our gloved hands. To project that classic idol energy, facial expression management had to stay sharp the entire time despite how warm and stuffy the hall became.

Shooting Hanayo Koizumi's stage outfit—especially the combo of white thigh-highs and a flared mini skirt—really tests camera perspective, as the wrong angle can easily shorten leg proportions. Fortunately, the gymnasium floor offered lovely bounce reflections, so lowering the camera angle slightly captured great framing. Every distant on-location shoot is a test of stamina and mindset, but browsing through the camera preview made the three-hour setup and long journey entirely worth it.
