[March 7th cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail – Night Scene Cat Ear Daily Mini-Theater

Doing this cat version look of March 7th from Honkai: Star Rail was much more fun than imagined. To present this fluffy texture in the photos, the light pink wig was paired with two large cat ears on top, making the overall look instantly lively. The collar of the sailor suit uses a blue-and-pink striped design, which goes perfectly with the light blue colored contact lenses. The wind by the river at night was quite strong, and the water reflected the blue-purple neon lights of the amusement facilities on the opposite bank. This cool-toned ambient light hitting the face and wig actually made the pink hair color look softer.

This time we didn't use too much exaggerated lighting, preserving the authentic contrast between warm and cool tones in the night photography. To fix the cat ears firmly on the head without tilting, invisible bobby pins and Velcro were used for dual-reinforcement, because during the shoot, I had to do various head-tilting or cheek-pinching interactive movements. The feeling of having my cheeks pinched or my chin propped up by a friend in the photos—although I was saying at the time that I wasn't letting you pinch me on purpose, I still obediently leaned my face forward once the camera was set up, perfectly expressing the feeling of a soft little face being pinched.

As an anime cosplay hobbyist, the biggest challenge of this look actually lay in the coordination of the eye makeup and contact lenses. This pair of blue contact lenses isn't particularly large in diameter, but the color is very clear and bright. Paired with pink eyeshadow and a slender eyeliner, it makes the gaze look a bit like a cat, conveying an innocent yet clever vibe. However, I also want to remind fellow hobbyists who plan to do similar looks: although these fluffy large cat ear props look good, they easily lean to one side due to the wind when shooting outdoors, especially by the water. It is recommended to hide a few more bobby pins at the root of the hair accessory to reinforce it.

Additionally, for night photography, since the light sources are basically distant neon lights or streetlamps, the makeup must emphasize contouring and blush. Once the light dims, the foundation will flatten the facial features, and only a slightly richer outline contouring can make the face more three-dimensional. We barely used any special effect filters for this shoot, only adjusting the color of the water to make the blue-purple tones more translucent. Watching the shimmering reflection on the river surface paired with my own fluffy look in the same image, the night atmosphere was instantly maximized.

When taking photos by the river back then, a few passing children even ran over to stare at the cat ears, making this authentic and lively scene feel much more vivid than a studio shoot. Although the wig got a bit messy after being blown by the wind for a long time, that lively state with a touch of chaos actually fits this character's original personality better. Aside from the headpiece, my most satisfying part of the entire look is this sailor suit jacket; it has a great tailoring pattern, perfectly adapting to various quirky movements without making the clothes look saggy.

This time we didn't intentionally pose for any high-fashion looks; it was mainly focused on a casual, playful daily feel. This includes leaning close to the camera to have my cheeks pinched, and that first photo with clenched fists propping up the chin—these are all simple and easy-to-replicate postures, highly suitable as a reference for hobbyists who aren't used to posing. The soft feeling actually owes a large part to this set of fluffy cat ear props. The material was well-chosen, and during post-processing, we slightly preserved a bit of blur at the edges of the fur, which instead enhanced that touchable texture. The entire process was shot in a relaxed and pleasant manner, and I hope this night set conveys that relaxed and playful atmosphere.
