Today I'm sharing my official studio set for Shimoe Koharu—from getting the costume to final selects, preparation took about half a month.
Koharu's uniform from Blue Archive features a surprising number of intricate details. The black long-sleeved top has an asymmetrical off-the-shoulder cut, crowned by an eye-catching wide white-and-pink sailor collar that pairs with a vibrant purplish-pink mini skirt for bold visual pop. The trickiest part was definitely the white slouchy leg warmers. If styled poorly, these bulky warmers can easily make legs look short. During fittings, I tested several anchoring methods, eventually pinning them gently along the inside to achieve that slouchy volume without sliding down.
For hair, I picked a pale Pink twin tails wig, trimming the blunt bangs just above the brow line while lightly curling the face-framing tendrils to contour my face. The makeup focused on the eyes: pink contacts paired with rosy eyeshadow and subtle under-eye blush to capture that tender, youthful Anime cosplay glow. The slender black choker and feathered hair ornaments were key accents. I fine-tuned the angle of the black feathers for ages, setting them lightly with hairspray to preserve dimensional lift so they wouldn't fall flat during the shoot. The small black wings on my back were crafted with an EVA foam core layered with black feathers, kept featherlight to prevent awkward weight shifts when seated.
Shooting against a pure white studio backdrop, the photographer dedicated immense care to lighting so black fabrics wouldn't crush to pure darkness while white accents didn't blow out. A key light illuminated from the high side while fill lights softened the face, faithfully preserving organic textile textures. The grip on the black-and-pink prop was also carefully posed; in the second photo, I rested it softly across my sleeve to echo the overarching color scheme. The knee-hugging pose in the first photo was meant to evoke guarded, quiet vulnerability, whereas extending my legs and leaning back slightly in the second shot directed focus toward leg lines for a more relaxed, elegant sprawl. To make my eyes sparkle, we added a small ring-light panel near the lens, creating radiant catchlights. To elongate proportions, I pointed my toes slightly during the leg-extension pose, which counterbalanced the loose leg warmers to create a sleeker silhouette.
When channeling Koharu, I focused on her signature mix of flustered tsundere tension and adorable sweetness, infusing those nuances into subtle glances and body language. In post-production, I asked the retoucher to only calibrate contrast and color saturation—heightening the pop between black, pink, and white—without heavy-handed liquifying or skin smoothing to keep genuine skin texture intact. Every cosplay is a journey of refining tiny details, and seeing this completed set brings a wonderful sense of fulfillment.
