The character I brought to life this time is Salt from maimai DX. Ever since seeing her original design, I was brainstorming how to translate that refreshing blue-and-white crispness and cool detachment into three dimensions. The visual focal point of the entire styling is exceptionally distinct: the light purple wig and that prominent pair of plush kemonomimi beast ears.

To achieve organic volume, the wig was deliberately cut into three layered tiers. The bangs needed to cover the eyebrows without obscuring the eyes, while longer side tendrils were left to contour the face, and the hair at the back was thinned down to avoid looking top-heavy. The beast ears on top were mounted directly onto the wig cap; plush fabric requires careful directional grooming, so before shooting, I combed through the edges to tame loose fuzz, reinforcing them with both bobby pins and hairspray to ensure zero wobbling or distortion during dynamic poses. The blue-and-white floral headpiece beside the ear served as the crowning touch; the bright blue square jewel refracted light beautifully, and finding the right angle during the shoot allowed us to capture its luminous translucency.

Regarding makeup, to align with the character's persona, I leaned into minimalism. The foundation pursued a translucent finish with only minimal concealer, preserving natural skin texture. The eye makeup was the core highlight: using a purple-toned eyeshadow base kept within the eyelid crease, paired with purple cosmetic contacts to give the gaze a built-in sense of aloof detachment. The outer corners were subtly lengthened with deep brown, maintaining soft lines without aggressive harshness. Blush was dusted beneath the eyes and across the tip of the nose to add a dash of vitality, complemented by a matte pink lip tint with a soft, velvety texture. Keeping the overall makeup clean without heavy contouring allowed the studio lights to sculpt three-dimensional depth naturally.

The geometric blue-and-white panelling of the outfit truly tested the garment's tailoring; the inner white turtleneck needed to hug the neck snugly without choking, while the outer blue jacket was finished with white edge-binding, echoing the square gem at the chest with the hair ornaments. During the shoot, the outfit's colors popped vividly against a clean, solid background. In the first shot, I held a clenched fist in front of my chest—honestly because we were joking about the "want some bread?" meme, so I clenched my hand to suppress laughter while keeping my face stoically cool, looking straight into the lens. The second shot shows me tugging at my collar with a slight head tilt; pulling at the collar created dimensional tension in the fabric, giving the rigid geometric patterns a dynamic tilt to break visual monotony while naturally guiding the viewer's eye.

Since Salt is a character from the rhythm game maimai DX, I habitually played a few songs on my phone during shoot breaks. The sense of rhythm in rhythm games shares a lot with capturing moments in photography—both demand precise, split-second decisions. Playing songs requires intense focus to hit note timings accurately; during this photoshoot, I deliberately maintained that focused yet slightly spaced-out gaze, keeping expressions restrained to leave more room for the audience's imagination.

Overall, capturing this Purple hair cosplay styling relied on the tiered wig silhouette, the aloof eye makeup pairing, and the crisp blue-and-white palette. Bringing a 2D design into reality through cosplay is a continuous process of trial and error, from trimming hair fibers to fine-tuning every single gesture. Under natural light, the colors came through exceptionally clean, delivering an authentic and satisfying portrayal of the intended vision.
