Shooting this Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay focused on capturing the spirited vitality and serene temperament of her Water element theme from Genshin Impact. From establishing an oceanic blue-violet studio aesthetic to styling white tulle, shells, and crystal props, the entire set was crafted around a "water" and "fairyland" atmosphere, aiming to deliver visual immersion worthy of Watatsumi Island.

In terms of outfit craftsmanship, the deep blue off-shoulder top paired with a black lace choker exudes both priestess solemnity and refined grace. The blue-and-white striped sleeves are embellished with pearls and gold rope knots, adding intricate elegance. The multi-layered tulle skirt serves as the highlight of this ensemble—layering soft blue, pale purple, and gentle pink chiffon to create a light, ethereal effect that flows like rippled water with every step. Achieving the natural, fluttering movement seen in the photos required precise wind management, with dedicated fan setups dynamically adjusted for angle and force.

The wig was equally central to this look. Its dreamy pink-to-blue gradient required a high ponytail that possessed both volume and soft curvature. To prevent the ends from appearing stiff, extensive curling iron styling was conducted before shooting to ensure natural strand movement. Fin-shaped hair ornaments on either side further echoed her aquatic character lore. For makeup, I opted for a translucent base rather than heavy color saturation, using soft pink eyeshadow and subtle glitter highlights to emphasize gentle eyes that harmonize with the ensemble's cool, ethereal aura.

On shoot day, ambient temperatures felt quite low due to dry ice effects and cool studio lighting. To capture that weightless flow in the tulle and hair, we repeatedly attempted the same angles. The look-back pose was especially demanding—requiring the body to turn sideways while gazing back over the shoulder into the camera lens, balancing playful charm without losing her inherent gentleness. We shot dozens of frames, adjusting hand placement and chin angles until isolating this most satisfying shot.

The photographer's lighting played a decisive role in this setup. Cool white light sources highlighted the purity of white tulle and shell props, while the pink-purple skirt tones took on subtle color shifts under cold light, unexpectedly mirroring the watercolor aesthetic of in-game Water element art. Post-processing focused merely on enhancing translucency while preserving raw color fidelity, thanks to thorough pre-shoot prep.
