Shooting this Sangonomiya Kokomi doujin concept by the sea was primarily driven by our desire to capture the fleeting moment where the ocean breeze meets the evening twilight. The costume was tailored from an iridescent blue-and-purple gradient fabric that yielded an enchanting luster under the setting sun, enveloped by an outer layer of semi-sheer gossamer tulle that drifted with buoyant lightness as I walked. The pink wig atop my head—styled with high chignons and bunny-ear hair ornaments—paired with violet-blue contact lenses to elevate the character's ethereal presence to its peak. To complement the entire styling, I tied delicate white lace leg garters and fine chains around my legs, stepping barefoot onto the beach to instantly evoke the authentic immersion of treading across shallow waters.

The location was chosen on an expansive beach. To catch this sunset lighting, we began hair and makeup preparations early in the afternoon. At dusk, the sky transitioned smoothly from amber-orange to soft pink-violet, with clouds rich in dimensional depth. During the shoot, frontal fill-light ensured the subject stayed crisp and well-defined in backlit conditions while preserving the vivid color saturation of the backdrop sky. The first photo captured a profile standing pose, primarily showcasing the silhouette and the fluffy volume of the skirt hem, with both hands raising the draped ribbons to let the fabric flutter naturally in the wind, resulting in an effortless snapshot dynamic. The second photo captured a full-body composition, taking a step on tiptoe to lightly brush the water's surface—a stance that flatteringly accentuated leg lines and the fluid drape of the attire. Controlling the flight arc of the silk ribbons in the wind was tricky, and it took numerous attempts to freeze the most flawless frame.

As a cosplayer portraying Sangonomiya Kokomi, I deliberately softened my range of motion and kept my gaze calm and serene. Although walking on sand while remaining vigilant not to let the skirt get soaked by seawater was a challenge, the shoot was deeply rewarding. The material of this costume deserves special mention: the iridescent fabric combined with gradient dyes produced varied color reflections across shifting angles of light, delivering stunning visual results with minimal post-production color grading. The biggest hurdle of coastal shooting was the sea breeze, as hair and ribbons easily obscured the face, yet the wind simultaneously infused the imagery with natural dynamism. Before shooting, I communicated extensively with the photographer; we decided against an indoor studio, choosing instead to place the character in an authentic natural environment. To honor Kokomi's shrine maiden aura, the makeup emphasized sheer translucency, with blush and eyeshadow swept in pinkish-purple tones to echo the wardrobe palette. Factoring in coastal gusts, the wig was secured with styling spray while still retaining loose, naturally drifting wisps of hair. The session lasted from 5:00 PM until the sunset completely faded, during which we explored diverse movements—beyond standing and strolling, we incorporated spins across the sand and subtle forward bends to discover the angles that best flattered the character's ambiance and physique. Because the skirt is relatively short and prone to riding up in motion, we prepared thorough safety undergarments while utilizing the sheer tulle layering to add visual depth to the compositions. Every seemingly casual freeze-frame was the culmination of meticulous deliberation over light, angles, and facial expressions—which is precisely where the allure of cosplay photography lies. Reviewing the raw files after wrapping up, the harmony between lighting and character performance surpassed all expectations. This seamless fusion of natural landscapes and character essence was a truly precious creative journey for me, and I hope everyone can feel this tranquility brought from the sea.
