[Marisa Kirisame cosplay] Canon Style Marisa's Convention Photos, Always Fresh, Always Classic

The convention photos I received from the Chengdu Anime Convention this time truly gave me a massive surprise; the photographers are genuinely amazing at capturing moments! Having played Touhou Project for so many years, I've actually done Marisa Kirisame cosplay many times, but every time I put on this classic canon style look again, I still find that pure magician temperament deeply moving.

Let's talk about the costume pairing first. The pointed witch hat on top absolutely must have that iconic large white bowtie. To keep it upright even on windy days, I specially added rigid support inside the hat. The pattern of the inner puff-sleeve white shirt's collar tie was re-adjusted by myself; it needs to sit exactly at the collarbone, not too loose or choking the neck. The outer black vest chooses matte fabric to avoid reflection; although the double-breasted gold buttons are small, their texture must be high-quality, otherwise it would look cheap. The layered feel of the skirt hem is key; I ironed and set the pleats of the white ruffled apron in advance. At the junction of the bottom layer of the black skirt and the white lace, I sewed a circle of invisible fishbone boning, so that the skirt expands naturally when walking without collapsing into a clump.

For the hair, to restore the feeling of that blonde girl, I spliced two wigs together to increase the volume and length of the curls. The slender braids on both sides are the soul of the look; they shouldn't be braided too tightly, leaving some loose strands of hair makes it look more natural. In terms of makeup, I intentionally softened the sharpness of the eyeliner, using a warm brown eyeshadow as a base, with blush applied slightly higher. Paired with my naturally round face, it makes the overall demeanor closer to that somewhat charmingly naive yet confident witch temperament.

This black magic wand/broom prop was modified by hand by myself. I repeatedly compared the curve of the handle hook with the original design illustrations. A fine wire mesh was sewed inside the black cloth of the broom head so that it could be propped up into a fluffy shape. The small gold stars and purple ribbons on top were decorations I added temporarily; in the complex outdoor lighting of an anime convention, the purple can form a great visual pop with the black and white, making the frame colors less monotonous.

The venue was actually packed with people on the shooting day, with quite a few passersby in the background, but the photographer was very adept at using a large aperture to compress the background while retaining the lively atmosphere of the convention. The first standing pose holding the hat brim is my most frequently used opening stance, allowing me to quickly get into character. For the second pose with one hand on the waist, I intentionally adjusted my center of gravity to tighten the waistline, making the full-body proportions look elongated in the print. The one slinging the broom over my shoulder was actually a minor error; because the broom was too heavy, I almost lost my balance when it was on my shoulder, but the final print looked exceptionally natural instead, presenting a kind of casual and uninhibited vibe of a magician on her way.

Looking back at these photos, I feel the charm of the canon style lies in the fact that it doesn't need complex special effects or exaggerated modifications; even the most basic black-and-white color scheme paired with blonde hair, as long as the details are fastidious enough, can present the character's original energetic, slightly mischievous yet dependable feeling. Meeting many fellow enthusiasts at the Chengdu Anime Convention this time, everyone recognized the look at a glance, and that kind of mutual understanding made me genuinely happy. For some minor flaws in the photos, such as the skirt hem being blown sideways by the wind or the edges of the wig being a bit messy, I didn't ask the retoucher to fine-tune them, because those are real convention photos, recording the most vivid state of that moment.
\ Every instance of cosplaying Marisa feels like a reunion with an old friend to me; there is no need to act deliberately—just putting on these clothes and picking up the broom naturally brings out that feeling.
