This shoot attempts to recreate the stage styling of the all-around idol Momoka Hanyuu under Arknights' Blurring Phantasm theme. The white jacket paired with the deep blue pleated skirt, plus the color clashing of the red bow and gloves, is highly eye-catching under the spotlight. The red bow on top of the head and the elf ears are the characteristics of this look, and coordinated with the overall slightly playful and energetic stage makeup, I wanted to express the high energy of an idol during a performance.
To fit the character setting, this set utilized livehouse-level stage lighting and real musical instruments. For the first photo playing the electric guitar, I specifically practiced chord fingerings; although it wasn't actually connected to an amplifier for shooting effects, the moment I gripped the guitar neck truly carried a heavy sense of band immersion. Later when shooting the keyboard and drums, it was a bit of cramming. Shooting the drum kit required overcoming the obstruction of the drum pieces, needing to ensure the dynamic movement of the drumsticks in the frame while keeping the overall composition from looking crowded, and the photographer cooperated to make many angle adjustments.
Actually, before doing this cosplay, I had no foundation in drumming. The drum kit on-site was quite intimidating when set up. I tried striking it a few times with the drumsticks and found that to make the photos capture that aura of genuinely drumming, the arm drop points and hand gestures were much harder to control than I imagined. The photographer suggested that I shoot more frames with my upper body tilted, which could guide the gaze toward the action of both hands striking, strengthening the on-the-spot atmosphere of the performance.
This gear actually isn't too complex to put on, but the jacket fabric has a certain crisp stiffness; holding specific poses for a long duration still heavily tests physical strength. The red gloves add some layers of detail, and the patchwork lining and back-of-the-hand decorations make hand movements look much fuller during playing. When the red gloves come into contact with the black and white piano keys, the color contrast is extremely intense. Originally, I wanted to capture that kind of elegant imagery when playing the piano, but the temperament of this styling is actually better suited for a lively, higher-intensity playing state. Therefore, the second keyboard shoot was changed to a slightly forward-leaning posture, concentrating the visual focus as much as possible on the area above the waist.
The set with the synthesizer was a bit more gentle, highlighting a sense of interaction through a forward-leaning posture. Beyond these relatively large movements, the coordination of subtle facial expressions is also crucial; every gaze toward the lens required controlled intensity, looking neither dull nor overly contrived. The staff on the side kept using warm-colored light sticks to help me with fill light, and that warm orange hue hitting the white jacket created a warm texture unique to the stage.
Participating in the Creator Support Program this time, being able to have the opportunity to capture this kind of dynamic tension in flat hardcopy photos feels highly rewarding. The warm tone of the stage lighting and the character's colors mix together, visually forming a unified image style. From putting on makeup to wrapping up the shoot, the photographer kept helping me adjust the angle of the reflector, wanting to handle the facial highlights more naturally so that the details of the elf ears could also be preserved under backlighting.
As a player doing this cosplay, being able to shoot in a studio equipped with complete musical instruments and stage lighting was a rare experience. These photos not only record the styling itself but also serve as a unique interpretation of the idol theme. In the process of fiddling with these musical instruments, it also brought me closer to the character's understanding of stage expressiveness.
