When shooting this set of Arknights Surtr swimsuit photos, the light by the pool was at its strongest. While looking at the colorful broken light glistening on the water surface was very poetic, facing this direct natural light was quite a test for both the model and photographer. White sheer fabric and a black halter bikini easily lose details under intense light, so choosing the shooting angle became key. We ultimately decided on camera angles focused on side-backlighting, preserving the semi-transparent texture of the sheer fabric without letting the black swimsuit turn into a solid black void.
Regarding the construction of this outfit, the off-shoulder white sleeve jacket actually challenged upper body movements—it couldn't be too tight or too loose. When stretching arms or raising them slightly, the falling folds created a subtle see-through effect with the skin, which was a detail we focused on capturing during composition. The fabric used was a lightweight material that, in a poolside environment, created different draped shapes due to wind and humidity changes, adding spontaneity and fun to the on-site snapshots. The black crisscross straps around the neck were not only decorative but visually elongated the neck line. The small white flower on the chest broke the monotony of black and white color blocks; opting for fabric rather than plastic gave it a softer texture.
Being poolside, moist water vapor intertwined with sunlight made it easy for base makeup to look blotchy. To prevent this, I used waterproof products for face priming, paired with matte-textured powder to balance out the shiny water effect. For lips and cheeks, orange tones were selected to complement the red hair, giving the look a summery vitality. The highlight of the red hair styling lay in the iconic black horn on the side, which is the soul of the character's design; extra effort went into securing the hairpins so it wouldn't tilt during movement.
To meet the photographer's requirements, we needed to convey a lazy yet cool atmosphere. Movements couldn't be too stiff, yet had to adapt to the visual weight of the swimsuit. Sitting on the steps with calves naturally dipping into the water, the gold anklet touching the water surface created tiny refractive glints—all serving as interesting visual narratives. The black straps and white ribbon knots on the legs effectively balanced proportions and, combined with reflections on the water, made the overall frame richer.
Reviewing shots during breaks, the slightly overexposed feel actually highlighted the character's pale, cool detachment under sunlight. To capture this ambiance, we didn't intentionally crush the highlights, keeping some exposure latitude inherent to outdoor shoots. Post-processing involved only clearing distracting debris from the water and tweaking color temperature so the cool blue water could complement skin texture.
Shooting in water with this outfit was actually more exhausting than imagined, as I had to constantly monitor how water flow affected clothes and hair while keeping my expression in check. Fortunately, the shooting pace was well-controlled, and getting into character went smoothly. Every time I looked at the final shots showing elbows and knees slightly flushed by the sun, I felt this was the truest, most vibrant expression of a summer outdoor shoot. I personally love the overall tone and atmosphere of this set, and I hope everyone can feel this refreshing, cool moment by the water. Shooting this Arknights Surtr Swimsuit cosplay set was a special experience; matching character traits through outfit wearing—whether in poolside poses or water postures—focused on presenting a state fitting the swimsuit setting while maintaining her original aura, making this character-focused Waterside photography shoot thoroughly enjoyable.
To complement the overall white tulle look, I made some adjustments to accessories. The thin black neck strap felt soft to touch, so there was no worry about leaving marks. During shooting, special attention was paid to shoulder straps and clothing positions to best display the swimsuit's structure. Additionally, moving around the pool steps with a thin mossy texture, the sound of the gold anklet rubbing against the ground added fun real-life details that enlivened the whole process. Looking back at this shoot, combined with sunlight and water sparkle effects, the final results turned out ideal, seamlessly blending the swimsuit outfit's crisp sharpness with soft beauty for this slice of Anime life.
