[Nakatsu Shizuru cosplay] The Kitty in the Classroom: Sharing Insights from This Shoot

For this shoot, we selected a classroom in Shanghai that perfectly matches the atmosphere of Rewrite, primarily to capture Nakatsu Shizuru's nimble yet effortlessly nonchalant presence on campus. Photography-wise, an 85mm focal length paired with a wide aperture was used from a lowered, upward perspective, utilizing student desks and chairs as the foreground to create intense depth of field, thereby accentuating the petite delicacy of her kitty persona. Illumination relied mainly on natural window light entering from the left side of the room, supplemented with a reflector to bring out the luminous, translucent textures of the White stockings and skin. Posing directly referenced canonical dynamics from the original work; for instance, the first shot utilizes a forward-extended leg composition that not only showcases the tiered layering of the White stockings, brown platform boots, and skirt, but also naturally guides the viewer's gaze toward the face and red bow tie. Regarding behind-the-scenes moments, the hard wooden classroom floor made adjusting seated and kneeling postures physically taxing, demanding extra caution to prevent the White stockings from snagging on the floorboards. In post-processing, the ambient palette was refined by adjusting the somewhat harsh desk wood into warm amber tones and lowering overall contrast to align with the soft, luminous, and clean style typical of 2D photography. For costume and prop fidelity, the custom-made cat ears and tail featured plush fur textures, catching delicate rim highlights under side lighting. The red bow and cuff ties were also tailored to canonical proportions. This session achieved high fidelity to the character—not only highlighting signature elements like the cat ears, blonde twin tails, and red-and-white school uniform, but also leveraging campus floorboards and desks to craft an everyday, playful aura. Ultimately, four images from distinct angles were selected; the cover shot employs leg contours for visual leading lines, flattering the character's graceful silhouette while emphasizing the longitudinal depth of the classroom, creating a thoroughly satisfying result for Campus photography.
