[Sinon cosplay] The Ice Sniper in the Xi'an Ruins

I dug up that set of Ruin style cosplay photos of Sinon shot in Xi'an back in 2018. That abandoned, rusted factory was truly a recognized holy grail among our veteran Xi'an ACG community, commonly referred to as the 'Xi'an Ruins.' Many cosplay works featuring wasteland, apocalyptic, or battle-damaged aesthetics were basically completed there. The tilted Dutch angle composition in the photo was the photographer's creative idea—after all, the abandoned steel beams, rugged wooden platforms, and intense side-backlight filtering through broken windows were exceptionally well-suited for breaking away from conventional perspectives. To faithfully recreate Sinon from Sword Art Online, the mint green wig and white ribbons took a lot of effort to style back then, especially the long, heavy sniper rifle prop, which felt substantial in hand with fantastic texture. The outfit consisted of black tactical gear paired with brown tactical harnesses, with thigh-highs and buckled leg straps on the legs—a visually striking combination, though physically demanding to shoot in. To match the Dutch angle perspective, I had to lie prone on rough wooden boards and repeatedly adjust my posture, getting dust all over my clothes. The weather was quite cold back then with no heating in the factory and chilly winds blowing through; yet to preserve the character's aesthetic, I gritted my teeth and went without a coat, shivering while maintaining a stoic, cool expression. Sunlight streamed through rusted iron pipes and half-open glass windows, striking right onto the wig and white ribbons, creating strong light-and-dark contrast. Such natural lighting is rare and fleeting since the sun's position changes every minute, demanding seamless coordination between photographer and model to capture. Later, fellow fans mentioned that the site had been demolished, which still feels regrettable in hindsight. From a professional standpoint in Cosplay photography, scouting locations beforehand for Ruin style cosplay on-location shoots is vital—scheduling the shoot based on the sun's elevation and factory structure creates that volumetric lighting. Although this work is from years ago with minor flaws in posing or details, the visual tension brought by a genuine on-location environment is hard to achieve in a studio. The thigh-highs and tactical gear easily got dirty on ground littered with dust and gravel, but it was precisely this dusty realism combined with the mottled, rusting pipes in the background that enhanced the story within the photos. Digging up these old photos brings back memories of carrying heavy bags of props together like treasure hunters exploring abandoned factories—a passion and nostalgia unique to our veteran Xi'an ACG community. While I might lack the spontaneous stamina now, that pure passion for character accuracy and dedication to authentic textures remains immensely rewarding. This set of Sinon photos is not just cosplay, but a record of the devoted love I invested in the work and 2D culture during my youth. If given the chance, I'd love to attempt this hardcore on-location ruin style again; the emotions woven by light, shadow, and architectural structures continue to fascinate me.
