[Yazawa Nico Cosplay] Love Live! μ's Mermaid Awakening: A Starlit Idol Under Dreamy Sheer Curtains

This set of Mermaid awakening Yazawa Nico costume took about a month from preparation to final photo release. The fabric of the clothes selected a matte material with a pearlescent feel, paired with a large area of pink-and-purple color-contrasted ruffle design, featuring highly rich layers. Star stickers were applied at the chest clavicle to restore the awakened card's totem; though small, this detail refracts delicate flashes under the pink sheer curtains' scene lighting, perfectly fitting the dreamy theme of interwoven water waves and starlight in this look.
The headwear section used customized colorful strings of beads. To avoid the hair accessories being too heavy like in the original anime illustration, I selected acrylic beads with a lighter texture, so they don't sag on the head while maintaining visual fullness. The twin-tails wig was trimmed several times, especially thinning the hair ends to ensure a light and elegant floating feel when swinging next to the sheer curtains. The hair color of the wig is a kind of black with deep blue reflections, which, combined with the dark red colored contacts, happens to anchor down the bright pink-and-purple clothes, preventing the person from looking too floaty on camera.
In terms of the backdrop, semi-transparent iridescent light sheer and white cloud-like plush props were used to create an illusion of being between a sea of clouds and a crystal palace. The lighting in the studio was intentionally adjusted to a soft side-backlighting, allowing the high-light reflections of the sheer curtains to map onto the person, outlining the character's silhouette and clothing folds. The movements mimicked that calm and confident state in the awakened card, without deliberately striking grand poses but casually arranging the sheer curtains or sitting naturally, hoping to convey the effortless charisma of this energetic idol offstage.
Speaking of the character Yazawa Nico, she has always been renowned for her "little devil" image and sparkling self-confidence in the Love Live! μ's team. This playful yet mature temperament presents a very special sense of elegance when combined with the Mermaid awakening design. During the shooting process, we actually encountered many unexpected situations, such as the sheer curtains being very easily blown messy by the wind and tangling the wig and bracelets, resulting in having to restyle the hair and adjust the clothing layers several times. The cloud props on the floor were also stepped on and collapsed quite a bit, so half the time relied on assistants re-stacking the shapes to maintain the backdrop's integrity.
The UI sidebar style of the SR card was re-added in post-processing to create a stronger link between the entire photo and the mobile game's original awakened card face. No excessive beauty filters or skin smoothing were applied here, preserving more of the makeup's own texture, such as the natural luster of the lips and the basic outline of the eyeshadow, making this Cosplay photography work not just a simple character imitation but carrying a stronger texture restoration. True cosplay is not about simply wearing the right clothes, but about how to bring that vivid personality from the 2D plane into 3D through expressions and small details. I'm quite satisfied with this set of Mermaid awakening photos, and the happiest part is the final state of the clothes and wig presented in front of the lens.
