[Shu cosplay] Arknights: Shu & Jie Traditional Chinese Style Fantasy Shoot Log

Shooting Arknights' Shu and Jie with my partner was an extraordinary experience; the set was steeped in rich atmosphere, where the massive ink-wash moon lantern and carved wooden furnishings instantly pulled us into character. To achieve seamless pointed ears, we dedicated extensive time during makeup to ensure the prosthetic edges blended naturally into the skin from every camera angle.

For my Shu cosplay, the blonde wig featured custom blue dip-dyed streaks, with the yellow, blue, and white antennae and elf ears serving as the core soul of the design. The attire centered on white, pairing an off-the-shoulder silhouette with trousers patterned in bold blue, orange, and red geometric graphics. The heavy necklace strung with chunky multicolored blocks added undeniable visual punch. The most labor-intensive element was undoubtedly the colossal plush tail: the yellow-and-blue fur was wonderfully fluffy, requiring continuous repositioning during takes to create an organic flow and drape. Finding the right fabric for the gloves took plenty of trial and error to stay true to the design while allowing flexible handling of the calligraphy brush and antique books. Anchoring the tail was another hurdle; whether coiling around my legs or draping across the floor, we had to balance weight and compositional harmony so it wouldn't obstruct the outfit's fine details.

My partner's Jie paired flowing black hair with green dragon horns, layering a mandarin-collar shirt under a black, orange, and white colorblocked coat, while a structured sash and grey maxi skirt provided distinct, elegant depth. Cradling traditional thread-bound tomes and prayer beads in pale-gloved hands, she captured a grounded, serene aloofness. Her braided plaits and hairpieces were crafted with immense delicacy, blending the green horns seamlessly into the wig. We explored varied duo poses, from sitting side-by-side on vintage horseshoe armchairs to one seated poised while the other leaned in, using the curving tail as a fluid visual bridge linking us together.

The shoot was physically taxing, especially navigating the dense wardrobe while coordinating props and gloved gestures. To infuse the frames with cinematic narrative, we leveraged calligraphy brushes, painted scrolls, and dry ice mist to conjure an ethereal, dreamlike haze. The concept 'Until the earth turns into a lime' naturally weaves romance with surreal absurdity, and we strove to materialize this otherworldly tension within a traditional Chinese aesthetic. Resetting postures and blocking in the set over and over ensured that every frame withstood close scrutiny. Every click of the shutter reaffirmed our shared interpretation of the characters.

While the process was exhausting, seeing the final collection made every second worthwhile—that is the purest joy cosplay can offer.
