It's my birthday, so I decided to post this convention set from Day 1 of Chengdu Worldline Animation and Comic Exhibition yesterday. This marks the tenth time I've cosplayed Skadi the Corrupting Heart since getting into the game in 2024, serving as a special personal ritual for my birthday.
Yesterday's shoot was genuinely pushed to the limit. To catch the outdoor lighting, I spent the early morning smoothing out this incredibly intricate outfit. The red-and-black dress features fabrics with jacquard patterns and reflective sheens; the cascading ruffles and petticoat had to be ironed and smoothed section by section. Those long red-and-black trailing ribbons certainly look majestic in the breeze, but they tangle quite easily. The headdress features an exaggerated peaked silhouette; its inner bright-blue reflective material catches gorgeous glints under the sunlight, though its weight is rather unforgiving, leaving my neck slightly sore after wearing it for a while. The silver metallic high-heeled boots nicely elongated visual proportions, but walking on asphalt required careful balance. The black Leg garter across the thigh also needed careful tension adjustment to stay snug without restricting movement. The black staff prop is rich in fine details and felt heavy in hand, requiring constant awareness of its center of gravity when executing poses.
The weather in Chengdu over the past two days has been spectacular, offering a pure backdrop of blue skies and white clouds. Standing in the convention center plaza with the wind whipping the skirt and ribbons backward, that sense of motion required no forced effort at all. To capture the power of the staff and the visual tension of the dress, we experimented with numerous low-angle perspectives. Posing-wise, I kept my limbs elongated to showcase the commanding presence of the red-and-black dress. Despite the crowds around, slipping into character allowed me to fully immerse myself in that abyssal atmosphere of the deep sea.
From the nervous hesitation of my very first Skadi shoot to this tenth outing, my mastery over the makeup, wardrobe fitting, and expressive demeanor has matured significantly. Every time I portray this character, I experience her blend of aloof detachment and underlying madness from fresh perspectives, refining and optimizing the costume details each time.
Happy birthday to me, and here's to another joyful year immersed in ACG passion! Even though every outdoor shoot is exhausting, all the fatigue dissolves the moment I see the final edits. In this new year of life, I hope my favorite operator gets more CGs and story focus, and I hope to keep carrying this passion to create even more satisfying works.
