This shoot brings Nian from Arknights to life, revolving entirely around the festive themes of celebration and culinary delight. In terms of styling, to capture the character's distinct aura, I wore a white wig accented with red highlights and her iconic red dual horns. The Elf ears served as an essential part of the look; achieving a seamless fit required considerable pre-production shaping. For the attire, I chose an adapted white qipao adorned with traditional motifs, complete with frog fasteners and intricate embroidery. The arm sleeves retained the original red patterns from the official art, which, paired with a long, fluffy white tail, delivered a striking visual impact. For makeup, I opted for warm reddish tones on the eyes with an upward feline flick at the outer corners, harmonizing with the wardrobe to accentuate the character's commanding presence.

The set design on the day of the shoot was exceptionally thoughtful. The photographer, JNK Stray Dog, constructed a richly traditional environment: wooden folding screens, antique curio shelves, hanging scrolls, and red plum blossoms—every detail exuded classical refinement. To complement both the character and the festive holiday mood, the dishes on the table were carefully curated. The centerpiece was an authentic hotpot overflowing with dried chili peppers, flanked by whole fish, braised pork belly, and an assortment of Chinese dishes that enriched the color palette and infused the frame with vibrant daily life. To create a steaming, piping-hot atmosphere, we released plenty of artificial smoke; while keeping a focused, steady gaze amidst the mist was challenging, the resulting interplay of light and shadow was immensely rewarding. The lighting setup incorporated rim lighting to sculpt the silhouette, making both stray hairs and drifting haze appear soft and layered.

For posing, I experimented with multiple interactive actions: picking up food with chopsticks, raising a cup, and perching at the table while looking back over my shoulder. Sitting along the edge of the table was especially demanding; wearing white high heels to highlight body curves while keeping the tail draping naturally required strong core balance. The folding fan in hand was an impromptu addition that deepened the Traditional Chinese style cosplay aesthetic. Because the set was crowded with props, movement ranges were restricted—for instance, when holding chopsticks, I had to balance an elegant arm line while keeping the angle of the utensils natural, requiring continuous micro-adjustments throughout the shoot.

The color grading leaned toward warm, rich hues to amplify the exuberant, fantastical mood. During the session, dry ice mist lent an ethereal aura to the room, though the dense air was quite biting on the throat, demanding wide-open, unblinking eyes that tested my facial control. Nonetheless, seeing the final frames wrapped in that cozy, lively warmth made every effort worthwhile. Every cosplay project is an authentic dialogue with the character. Nian naturally possesses an exuberant, freewheeling personality, and I strove to reflect that effortless spontaneity in my expressions. From test makeup to set construction, every stage was meticulously refined, and I hope these photos convey the warmth and vibrant spirit unique to Nian.
