Shooting on location in a pool is indeed hard physical work, but to present the unique temperament of Jsspsi in Arknights: Endfield, we specially set up an indoor water feature this time. The ripples and reflections on the water surface can well increase the visual layering of the picture, preventing the background from appearing monotonous. Indoor lighting is actually quite challenging; it must ensure that the character's face receives even lighting while avoiding direct light hitting the water surface to produce overly harsh strong reflections. Therefore, we spent a lot of time adjusting the light positions, using softboxes combined with the natural reflection of the water to create that moist yet translucent texture.
To fit the character's design, a lot of thought went into the hair styling. The mint-green long straight hair was specially chosen to be smooth and non-absorbent, requiring careful combing before entering the water each time to prevent tangles, while constantly carrying a wide-tooth comb and hairspray for remediation. The most patience-testing props were the elf ears, which required careful adjustment of angles and color to ensure the edges were natural and seamless on camera, while also coordinating with the angle of the wig sideburns to make the cheeks look more three-dimensional, making profile shots look better.
Regarding the costume, this outfit has an abundance of details. The black leather arm guards with golden meander patterns get heavy after soaking in the water for a long time, so I tried my best to adjust the tightness of the straps to ensure a visual sense of tightness without affecting the freedom of movement. The blue-and-white light gauze skirt hem floating in the water looks extremely beautiful; the surging water waves drive the skirt hem, paired with the white strap design on the thighs, which well brings out the lightness and tension characteristic of two-dimensional characters. Since it was shot barefoot, the foot movements would tense up and show lines with a little effort, and paired with red nail polish, the faint visibility beneath the water surface also has a great texture.
During the shoot, I chose to lean obliquely against a square wooden table. Unrolled scrolls were placed on the table, along with a writing brush and a translucent green paper umbrella, while the faint bird cages and plants in the background served as the finishing touch. These props are all designed to enrich the picture elements and give the scene a more intertwined atmosphere of ancient style and fantasy. To make the expression more on point, I tried to keep my gaze cold and aloof, slightly raising my head to look at the camera, leaning my body backward, handing my center of gravity over to the water surface, presenting a lazy yet slightly defensive posture. To catch the most natural moment of the water ripples, the photographer also searched for many angles. Although this shoot involved soaking in the water for a long time, seeing the light-and-shadow texture of the final picture and the overall atmosphere restoration made everything feel completely worthwhile.
