Bringing this Arknights: Endfield Jsspsi cosplay photoset to life took about half a month from preparation to final execution. We selected an indoor studio with traditional Chinese styling. The props on set were thoughtfully curated—calligraphy fabric drapes, potted bamboo and stones, and a wooden daybed—all intended to craft a space blending oriental charm with a touch of fantasy for the character.
In terms of costume, this outfit features numerous intricate details. To achieve a better silhouette when worn, I adjusted the waistline and the layering of the skirt hem during early fitting sessions. The wig was chosen in a soft light-green tone, with the side buns and straight bangs requiring dedicated styling and hairspray. Although the horn ornaments on the head were manageable in weight, to keep them from wobbling during poses, I had the prop maker add non-slip pads and securing straps on the underside so wearing them for extended hours wouldn't feel too strenuous.
The light on the afternoon of the shoot was ideal. The photographer utilized the windows and fabric drapes to create side-backlighting. In the first photo, I sat on the daybed holding a bound book. At that moment, I wanted to convey Jsspsi's calm demeanor while quietly reading—my gaze needed to stay gentle and steady without stiffening my hands. The photographer suggested flipping through the pages naturally; during the candid captures, the light fell perfectly across the white dress, and the metallic accessories showed wonderful texture.
In the second photo, I sat on the floor holding a rattan ball, a pose that felt relatively more relaxed. Because the outfit includes a cape and long skirt panels, sitting on the floor required smoothing out the fabric to prevent wrinkles from obscuring the garment's original silhouette. For the lower body, I wore black stockings paired with black high heels and metallic cross ornaments, forming a distinct contrast against the white dress. When setting up the lighting, because the stark contrast between black and white could easily result in crushed blacks or blown-out highlights, we used a softbox as the key light and supplemented it with a side reflector board to preserve both the details of the dress and the sheer texture of the stockings.
The calligraphy gauze drapes in the backdrop were a major highlight of this set, though they also increased the shoot's difficulty. To create a gentle drifting motion, we placed a small fan behind the drapes. Because the camera was focusing against the backlight with a shallow depth of field, even the slightest movement risked losing focus. I had to hold my poses while staying in sync with the photographer's rhythm. The bamboo bonsai placed in the foreground added visual depth to the frame and enriched the overall color palette.
Nailing the character's persona was a real challenge; without explicit movement references, I had to interpret her based on her background lore. During breaks, I experimented with several sitting postures, ultimately selecting the ones in the final frames to strike a balance between the modernity of the costume and the classical tone of the setting. The color grading leans toward a contrast of warm amber and muted celadon, preserving the natural lighting layers captured on camera without excessive retouching.
The shoot continued until dusk, and the team worked with great synergy. From the early prop preparation to the on-site lighting adjustments, the entire process went smoothly. I hope everyone can feel the care and dedication poured into recreating the scene and refining every detail in these photos.
