[Shiki Natsume Cosplay] Café Stella and the Reapers' Butterflies Qipao Showcase

The shooting and post-processing for this Shiki Natsume Qipao skin look have finally wrapped up, so let me share some reflections from the recreation process. The costume chosen this time was a modified Qipao featuring gold floral embroidery on a red base with wide white cuffs, tailored closely to fit the silhouette. For the shoot, I chose an indoor wooden chair as the setting; to project the character's demeanor, I adopted a seated pose with legs crossed and the right leg extended forward. This utilized perspective to better highlight the allure of the legs and Black stockings, while naturally flaunting figure curves through the Qipao's cut and side slit.

Regarding the texture of the Black stockings, I deliberately selected a slightly sheer style that creates layered depth under indoor lighting, perfectly matching the character's leg lines from the original illustration. Lighting setup was crucial during the shoot: the key light was positioned from the side, clearly highlighting the subtle brocade patterns on the fabric while preventing the Black stockings from muddling into an indistinguishable dark shape.

Since this is a Shiki Natsume Cosplay, her signature hair buns adorned with red flowers are the soul of the character. Considering that post-composite editing could achieve closer fidelity to the original art, I opted for a real-life shoot for the body while stylizing the head in post-production with a 2D anime aesthetic, ensuring consistent skin tones, light, and shadow between the head and body. Retaining the real human fingers and poses produced an intriguing blend of virtual and reality.

In terms of layout, to keep the composition from looking monotonous, I incorporated the character's full-body standee art into the bottom-left corner and a miniature chibi acrylic standee next to the right chair back. This echoed the theme and enriched the composition while maintaining a cohesive single image rather than a collage. During shooting, keeping the subject in the mid-to-right area of the frame was essential to prevent feeling marginalized.

Because the primary goal was recreating the ambiance of the original CG, I consulted numerous reference illustrations from Café Stella and the Reapers' Butterflies to capture her everyday demeanor. Posing-wise, keeping the raised right hand added a sense of dynamic motion. Beyond faithful recreation, executing this cosplay with feminine grace helped avoid stiff postures.

Black stockings paired with a red Qipao is an iconic combination, widely beloved in casual shoots and comic conventions alike; the focus this time was capturing that delicate balance. Shooting indoors before a wooden door created an intimate homestyle feel, while the composited facial features accentuated the 2D aesthetic. Finding the optimal angles to showcase the Black stockings and leg contours required multiple adjustments during the shoot, but the final outcome was very satisfying.
