[Columbina Cosplay] A Long-Awaited Recreation of the Moonlight Atmosphere from Genshin Impact

This Columbina cosplay set has actually been delayed for quite a long time, and I finally got around to organizing the retouched final photos over the weekend. Special thanks to photographer VM for his immense help with this shoot; he provided a lot of professional advice on everything from scene construction to lighting control. I had been wanting to shoot this outfit for a while, but never managed to assemble the right scenery props until I saw this crescent moon and white flower lighting set, which finally felt just right.

First, let's talk about the details of the outfit and styling. The wig used this time features long black-to-purple gradient hair, and the white wing decorations on top of the head paired with the mesh blindfold on the face give this styling its recognizable edge. Managing the hair strands took a lot of thought. To match the character's light and slightly mysterious vibe, I intentionally used styling spray so that the purple highlights at the hair tips could transition naturally under the light. The skirt hem is made of a blue and white patchwork sheer fabric, and its multi-tiered cut produces different expanding effects in both sitting and standing poses; capturing the fluttering texture when walking was one of our key focal points. The metal pendants and chains on the chest and shoulders, though occupying a small portion of the photos, really added a great deal of refinement under close-up shots.

The main color palette for today's scene consists of cool blue and pure white, with that huge glowing crescent moon prop in the background acting as the core of the entire set. To capture that cool, ethereal atmosphere, we also laid a layer of translucent film underneath, simulating a ripple-like reflection on a water surface when paired with the on-site flashlights. The arrangement of a large number of glowing blue and white flowers around was also highly calculated, functioning not only as fill lights but also enriching the composition layers. Particularly, managing the positioning and focal length for that floating glowing moth prop heavily tested our teamwork.

Regarding the composition of this photo set, I actually prefer the first photo as the primary visual. During the shoot, the photographer intentionally lowered the camera position, adopting a slightly low-angle perspective, which beautifully displays the cascading layers of the skirt hem while accentuating the lines of the white criss-cross strappy stockings on the legs. This bottom-up perspective leaves the frame looking exceptionally clean and crisp, with the character uncropped at the edges, making the overall composition more centered. Although the second photo provides more scene context, showcasing the surrounding stone pillars and glowing white spheres in a full panoramic view, the first close-up remain a far more eye-catching choice for showcasing the upper-to-lower outfit coordination and leg accessories. When presenting at offline conventions or selecting the first cover image for a finished set, what people notice at first glance is always the character's core traits and the accuracy of the attire, so between these two photos, I unhesitatingly chose the first one as the cover.

Actually, the process of shooting this set was quite full of twists and turns because the props took up a lot of space, and finding an appropriate studio took some time. Naturally, we also encountered color consistency issues during retouching. Because the glowing props acted as cool light sources while conventional indoor studio shoots tend to lean warm, I intentionally made the entire blue and white tone more translucent during post-processing color calibration and warm-cool contrast adjustments, striving to recreate that cool atmosphere from the actual vision. I am quite satisfied with the overall output quality this time. A slight pity is that the poses weren't varied enough; next time I get a chance to shoot, perhaps I can experiment with more dynamic or lying postures to integrate with the moon's curvature. In short, this styling from Genshin Impact truly tests the cooperation between the photographer and the cosplayer. Even though the theme is a long-awaited set, being able to express this ethereal, serene feeling through the lens means this creative endeavor has fully achieved its purpose.
