For this photo shoot of Taiyuan from Azur Lane, the main goal was to present two strikingly different visual aesthetics. The first was her iconic white uniform, while the second leaned into traditional Chinese styles. During early prep, I did extensive homework on wardrobe nuances to faithfully honor the character design. The white uniform ensemble features an eye-catching blue capelet and red bow, accented with silver chest chains, a brown leather belt at the waist, and blue cuff striping. To round out the silhouette, I intentionally paired it with gold-trimmed white thigh-high stockings and brown ankle boots, delivering a sharp 2D anime feel. While shooting on the ship deck, bright sunlight paired with stiff ocean winds meant bracing my core while using one hand to gently steady the skirt hem from billowing. Posing with legs crossed against the backdrop of ship masts and open blue sky yielded a vivid sailor-girl presence. Later, we transitioned to a park bench beside blooming cherry blossom trees—an angle that captured fluid leg lines, where resting hands gently over my knees and meeting the camera eye-level fostered a serene, tranquil atmosphere.
In the afternoon, we moved to a classical Chinese garden and changed into an embroidered red qipao. To harmonize with the gown, I restyled my hair into double buns adorned with gold and red hairpins. Sitting along the covered corridor carrying a lantern, we waited specifically for warm twilight rays to sweep in; the lantern's amber glow kissed my face, blending seamlessly with the sweeping eaves and upturned corners in the background to exude timeless oriental elegance. For poses, I bowed my head slightly toward the lantern, softening my gaze to weave quiet narrative depth into the frame. The final look was an off-the-shoulder modified white Chinese dress, where I let my hair down and accented it with a golden hairpin. Featuring exquisite gold-thread embroidery and bare-shoulder tailoring, I perched on a carved stone balustrade, propping one hand beside my hip while the other rested naturally on my lap. As sunset filtered through foliage onto the skirt, the jacquard textures and golden trims exhibited gorgeous visual dimension.
Transitioning across varied scenes throughout the day truly tested my adaptability in channeling the character's nuanced temperament. From the modern naval deck to springtime cherry blossoms and lantern-lit evening promenades in classical courtyards, every lighting condition demanded coordinated focal lengths and poses. To keep movements fluid rather than stiff, I regulated my breathing between takes to discover the most organic poise. Spanning such distinct stylings allowed me to appreciate the character from diverse angles, making my performance before the lens feel far more effortless. I look forward to exploring even more diverse styling combinations and scenes in future shoots.
