Choosing to shoot Changfeng from Azur Lane, what attracted me most was her unique temperament—seemingly cool and detached, yet actually a bit clumsy and airheaded. To restore this texture, a special setup was designed starting right from the makeup. The base makeup pursued a natural matte finish, with a focus on portraying an innocent look in the eye makeup. The long, straight black hair also utilized specially treated hairpieces, striving to present a smooth and beautifully layered effect under the lights.
Regarding the costume, this black-and-white Chinese-style maid outfit actually blends many elements of the Dragon Empery style. I repeatedly adjusted every detail, including the fluffiness of the cuffs, the tying method of the bowtie, as well as the headband and pom-pom decorations on the head. Especially the golden neck ornament, it not only enriched the visual layers but also instantly enhanced the character's recognizability.
The set construction was the key to this finished shoot. The behind-the-scenes team meticulously arranged a full moon backdrop and calligraphy silk drapes, filling the entire studio set with a poetic and traditional Chinese charm to achieve a perfect classical aesthetic mood. The wooden Go board in the front and the vintage lantern glowing with warm light on the side formed a clever warm-and-cool contrast with the cool-toned full moon. I tried to strike some casual sitting poses on the plush mat, cooperating with the pom-pom prop in my hand, doing my best to get close to those relaxed and vivid moments of Changfeng in her daily life.
We were particularly fastidious about the use of light and shadow in our Cosplay photography. Because there was a massive glowing moon behind me, to prevent its strong light from overwhelming the scene, we used large softboxes for fill light on my face, making the transition between light and dark extremely soft. The core of this set of photos was to convey that sense of serenity under the moonlit night. Therefore, the post-processing color grading strictly avoided high brightness, choosing low-saturation colors to maintain the visual unity and narrative depth of the frames. I hope this hard-earned work can present a vivid character image for fellow fans who love Changfeng and Azur Lane.
