The photos from Chengdu World Line Anime Exhibition are finally sorted out, featuring Cheshire from Azur Lane! The details on this costume are remarkably intricate: a monochrome maid-inspired silhouette adorned with generous lace trim and ruffles, giving the outfit substantial weight and texture when worn. Securing the lace headpiece atop my head took quite a bit of time, and to faithfully recreate that lavish charm, I paired it with white lace gloves and black detached sleeves. On my legs were white thigh-high Stockings trimmed with delicate black lace, matched with black platform Mary Janes, achieving an overall level of polish that I was truly thrilled with.

We chose to shoot at night against a pitch-black night sky, with only distant streetlights forming soft, blurred bokeh in the background. A nighttime environment like this sets a very high bar for lighting, but the upside is that the backdrop remains impeccably clean without unwanted passersby intruding into the frame. For props, we used a silver hand mirror embossed with relief patterns and a white serving tray; holding them against the dark background created striking reflective contrast. Since it was dark outside, the photographer brought high-powered flashes, providing clean frontal fill light that crisp and clearly rendered both facial details and fabric textures.

Both seated and standing poses presented real challenges during night shoots. For instance, when sitting on a black folding step ladder, I had to keep my spine firmly straightened while angling my legs just right so that the layered ruffles of the skirt and the clean lines of the white stockings showed to perfection. When standing with the mirror, I had to mind the positioning of my arms so they wouldn't block the black bow on the chest. Throughout the shoot, the flashes triggered repeatedly, requiring intense effort to keep my eyes wide and steady—facial expression control under blinding flashes is definitely an art form in itself.

Looking back at the convention, it was honestly an exhausting day; the event photos were taken after the exhibition had already ended, dragging my tired body to scout nearby spots. Seeing single-digit views on my previous post did bring a brief wave of disappointment, but cosplaying is, after all, something I love wholeheartedly. Every time I see the finished shots and reminisce about striking poses in the evening breeze, smoothing skirt ruffles, and repositioning props, everything feels completely worth it. Engagement and reach are best left to chance—what I truly cherish is the immersion into the character, collaborating with the photographer on composition and lighting, and striving to harmonize garment textures with the nighttime atmosphere.

I will continue exploring varied character styles moving forward, gradually sharpening my command over diverse styling concepts and shooting environments, striving to deliver even more refined and mature works next time.
