Just received the event photos for this Amiya cosplay. In the blink of an eye, some time has passed since the Wuhan Comic Convention Dreamland event. The convention was incredibly bustling on October 1st. It wasn't until closing time, as the crowds gradually dispersed, that I dragged Teacher Mo along to quickly shoot a few frames while the light and shadow were still good. Yesterday, I suddenly received the photos, and looking at them, I truly feel those few minutes weren't spent in vain.
First, let's talk about the performance of this costume. The "extra-large" dress mentioned in the post genuinely carries a great texture when worn. The white tube top design comes with French lace trim, while the hem is pieced together with multiple layers of light ice-blue gauze. When walking, the skirt hem is exceptionally fluffy and layered, making the on-camera effect look incredibly lightweight and ethereal. To match Amiya's iconic image, a lot of thought went into securing those brown rabbit ears and the silver tiara during makeup and hair styling—both to avoid looking top-heavy and to ensure a beautiful angle when turning around to look back. The braided wig was restyled to an appropriate length, without blocking the details of the blue and white collar at the neckline.
The shooting scene was chosen at the glass corridor and staircase outside the venue. Although there were glass reflections in the environment at that time, we perfectly utilized the glass and metal railings to create a cool-toned, crisp, and ethereal atmosphere. For this outfit dominated by blue and white, the cool-toned light fits the character's setting beautifully. Since it was just a hurried snapshot session after closing, there was no extra lighting equipment or reflectors to assist us; we relied entirely on the soft natural light diffused at the time. Judging by the final turnout, this soft light handling is very natural, not only preserving the details of the gauze skirt but also making the skin tone look highly translucent without harsh light spots. This is a great demonstration of Anime-style photography.
While posing, I coordinated with the photographer to capture actions like turning back and leaning against the railing. The photographer was very mindful of the flowing quality of the skirt hem during candid capture. Although movement on the stairs was slightly restricted, the rising and falling of the stance actually allowed the dress's layering to display even better. Throughout the process, Teacher Mu (Teacher Mo) kept guiding the angles to ensure the oversleeves and the overall silhouette were captured sharply. Seeing this set of quick shots after coming back truly exceeded my expectations. Without any deliberate reshooting or heavy post-processing, the authentic shooting process left some highly realistic breathing room instead. Although this makeup and hair styling is elaborate, the turnout of the photos is worth all the preparatory work.
Looking at the event photos and recalling the bustling energy of the convention day followed by the brief moments of peace after closing, having these few photographs as a memento already makes the beginning of this October highly meaningful.
