Taking advantage of the outdoor area at Firefly ACG Expo to shoot this Yuni cosplay loadout, the primary setup featured no key light, relying solely on a single Godox AD100PRO equipped with an orange gel for Rim light. This lighting approach heavily depends on environmental ambiance; against the lush outdoor greenery in the background, the intense warm Rim light neatly outlined the subject's contours while creating an exquisite warm-and-cool contrast between the pink wig and black leather outfit. The lens used was the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8; the creamy bokeh from its wide aperture turned bustling passersby into soft bokeh circles, centering visual focus entirely on the subject in this Viltrox Photography shoot.
To faithfully recreate Yuni from Goddess of Victory, I prepared a loose white shirt, a pink necktie, and vibrant pink twin tails. The trickiest part of the costume was the intricate network of black leather harness straps, thigh rings, and chunky platform boots. Because leather has high specular reflectivity, it easily blows out or gets crushed into flat black under complex outdoor lighting; fortunately, the Rim light separated the edges cleanly, giving the leather crisp definition. The prop was a long black leather whip, carrying noticeable physical weight. To match the character's commanding aura, I executed kneeling, standing, and profile postures. Shooting outdoors was physically demanding with surrounding crowds—requiring patience while waiting for clear frames while navigating security and venue guidelines. Yet capturing the kinetic snap of the whip in the sunlight and the elongated leg contours sculpted by side lighting made every ounce of effort worthwhile. We continually adjusted framing angles; since an 85mm focal length requires shooting from a distance, deliberate negative space was left around the frame to ensure the silhouette wasn't cropped near the borders.
This photoshoot deepened my practical mastery of single-light Rim light setups. Since ambient light was unpredictable, controlling the color temperature with the orange gel preserved luminous clarity while accentuating her sweet yet edgy persona. The white shirt fluttering in the breeze, combined with sharp leather shorts and youthful pink hues, captured that striking contrast thoroughly across these Convention photos. As a cosplayer who frequently attends expos, this outdoor shoot at the Firefly convention was a remarkably successful creative venture in both lighting conception and character fidelity, delivering a deeply satisfying set of photos honoring Goddess of Victory.
