[Tingyun cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Recreating the Fox-Eared Maiden Under the Full Moon at the Anime convention venue

When shooting this set on-site, the illuminated full moon lightbox backdrop and the flanking calligraphy hanging scrolls played an exceptional role in setting the scene. This classical ambiance, paired with the red, white, brown, and gold costume, makes immersing into the character effortless. The warm-toned light and shadow in the photos owed much to the lighting setup at the Anime convention venue. Lighting at conventions is notoriously complex; while this colossal backlit lightbox served as the primary light source, it imposed high demands on frontal fill light. A careful balance of exposure and color temperature was essential to retain both the rim highlights along the hair and the facial clarity.

This costume features extensive detail. The brown bodice boasts delicate gold-thread embroidery, matched with a white collar and small red bows to evoke a classical aura. The neckline accessories required frequent adjustment while walking to prevent warping. The fluffy black-and-white beast ears are the visual centerpiece, secured firmly at the roots of the wig. The green beads and gold hairpins on both sides also framed the eye area with rich detail. Paired with sheer white chiffon sleeves, a crimson skirt, and the addition of White stockings, the entire look was exceptionally photogenic at the exhibition. Due to the drape of the fabric, motions had to remain controlled rather than exaggerated, especially when seated, where the skirt folds needed careful arrangement.

The shooting environment at the Anime convention venue was bustling with constant pedestrian traffic, inevitably causing distractions. Capturing the ideal split-second required seamless chemistry with the photographer. For the first shot, we opted for a seated posture—raising a folding fan high with one hand, angling the torso slightly, and letting my legs extend naturally to elongate leg lines and enhance visual tension and dynamism. Thanks to the sheen of the White stockings, the legs possessed fantastic texture under the lights. Every adjustment required minding the skirt's folds and leg placement to achieve the most graceful silhouette. The second photo is a half-body close-up with refined facial expressions, resting a hand beneath the chin and gazing directly into the lens; such tight framing conveys the character's demeanor and poise far more intimately. Fluctuating light also meant constantly shifting positions, using the backlight to chisel head contours while letting ample light fall on the face to keep facial features crisp. In between shots, checking for makeup smudges and smoothing out any stray fur on the beast ears were crucial preparations to guarantee the final yield. The blurred foreground photographer naturally framed the shot, making the subject pop while preserving the authentic convention ambiance.

For a Female cosplayer roleplaying this character, the greatest challenge lies in mastering the gaze and posture. Constantly maintaining an upright, nimble poise takes a heavy physical toll. Exhausting as the full day was, seeing how the lights painted the costume in the intended tones and how the full moon silhouette accentuated the figure made every bit of hard work worthwhile. This photo series authentically captured my state that day without exaggerated retouches, showcasing the real shooting process. Every detail of this styling was thoughtfully prepared, enabling strong presence in front of the lens. Wandering through the Anime convention venue allowed me to truly appreciate the unique charm of this design. Looking back at these candid snaps and posed shots, the lively atmosphere still feels fresh. Serving as a live record of this convention, this was a complete and fulfilling creative experience.
