This photoshoot features Topaz from Honkai: Star Rail. To achieve great shots on the convention floor, I dedicated considerable attention to both the costume and props. Topaz's attire is truly distinctive: glossy dark-blue faux-leather romper shorts complemented by a crimson cape and golden diamond-lattice patterns, exuding the crisp, capable demeanor of a senior Interastral Peace Corporation executive. To capture this tactile texture, I deliberately selected slightly elastic PU leather, which prevented awkward wrinkling while seated and preserved the garment's structured, tailored drape.
On the day of the convention, the hall backdrop was rather busy, but we utilized a wide aperture and telephoto focal length to melt the background into smooth bokeh, locking all visual focus squarely onto the character and props. Two weapon props were prepared: one handgun in silver, black, and red, and another sci-fi firearm in blue, gold, and white. Posing with firearms demands precision—keeping the arms stable and wrists relaxed, while locking the eyes firmly onto the target when aiming. In the photos where I am seated on the folding stool, maintaining that posture in heeled over-the-knee boots proved to be an intense test of core strength; engaging the legs and lumbar muscles was essential to keep the bodily contours sleek and fluid. For the white short wig, I precision-trimmed the bangs and textured the side layers, pairing it with sapphire contact lenses. The makeup focused on sharp eye contours, capturing Topaz's signature blend of unshakable confidence and razor-sharp poise.
When speaking of Topaz, everyone naturally thinks of Numby; unfortunately, I couldn't bring the Warp Trotter along this time, but I will definitely make up for it on our next outing. To convey tactical combat tension during the shoot, I choreographed forward-aiming stances and angled seated positions. The crimson color-blocked accents on the tall boots and the drape of the cape easily bunched up while sitting, requiring meticulous readjustment every few takes. The prop guns were crafted with remarkable detail—the blue-and-yellow colorway and circular ventilation ports looked exceptionally crisp under highlights. The high-gloss leather outfit reflected ambient convention lights intensely, requiring the gaffer to invest considerable effort into flag-and-light placement to prevent harsh blown-out highlights while preserving rich material textures. These behind-the-scenes hiccups are an integral part of the cosplay journey.
From initial makeup trials to final post-processing, this set took about three weeks. Directing body language for such a capable, disciplined character is critical—postures cannot be too soft; one must project an aura of constant mission readiness. Although the convention hall was stifling, the final results met all expectations, vividly capturing Topaz's sharp yet enigmatic presence. The cold beverage in my hand between takes was an absolute lifesaver, though I kept my grip natural so it wouldn't disrupt visual harmony.
Regarding visual composition, I selected angles that accentuated bodily silhouettes—such as crossing my legs while seated to elongate visual leg proportions, paired with black tall boots and a crimson thigh strap. Because her design carries a strong techwear edge, I integrated more tactical firearm poses into the movement repertoire. In post-processing, the focus was on preserving the leather's specular highlights and metallic sheen without excessive skin blurring, retaining natural skin texture to keep the character grounded and tangible. I hope everyone enjoys this work.
