Wrapping up this shoot standing in Odaiba before daybreak, the first thing I did was review the camera screen data, realizing that the snaps were taken purely on intuition. Photographer @MoonCookie🍪 kept reminding me not to fall off while pressing the shutter directly, which led to those screenshots of the playback screen. As a Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) cosplay from Fate/Grand Order, this Ordeal Call II uniform styling is truly unique: unlike the flamboyant armor from her Berserker/Avenger phases, this combination of a white shirt, red tie, black blazer, and dark pleated skirt carries an academic everyday feel, yet exudes the distinct detachment of a Servant. Wearing Black over-the-knee stockings in the early morning sea breeze was freezing cold, but to faithfully capture the character's temperament, I powered through over two hours of shooting.
Many friends saw those photos showing camera shooting parameters and asked why I didn't just export them for retouching. In fact, shooting the playback screen directly gives a vintage, documentary film-like feel; the RAW indicators, F2.8 aperture, and shifts from ISO 100 to ISO 1000 record the entire gradual dawn—from the deep blue at 4:30 to the sunrise at 6:30. What passed before the lens was not just Odaiba's Rainbow Bridge and vending machines, but a whole transition from darkness to twilight. Regarding that DIY chart I made, I originally intended to analyze the motive categories of "Revenge" in Ordeal Call II, but after shooting, I was so frozen that I left the "Free Interpretation" box completely blank. In reality, there aren't that many reasons for vengeance; what matters more is conveying this complex character's inner world through photography.
These spots across Odaiba—from the covered footbridge to the waterfront, and over to the roadside vending machines—are all superb shooting locations for this Odaiba pilgrimage. To combat the windy conditions, the wig was heavily sprayed and pinned down with numerous bobby pins; otherwise, that iconic ahoge would fly away at any second. As I walked, the uniform skirt flared with movement, which, paired with Black over-the-knee stockings from a low-angle upward perspective, truly merged urban agility with dynamic strength. High-speed continuous burst was used to capture action shots; thankfully, the camera settings pulled through, preserving the leaping and looking-back moments. This is what an Odaiba pilgrimage feels like for Fate/Grand Order fans: although the early morning wind at Odaiba was strong, Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) in front of the lens maintained her signature elegance and loneliness.
With every shutter press, I felt a deeper real-world connection to the 2D character—an authentic texture that editing software can never replicate. Regarding the plot of Ordeal Call II, it fundamentally revolves around a process of struggle and self-severance, so choosing this everyday-leaning uniform helped balance that heavy sense of fate in this Anime cosplay. During the shoot, passersby curiously asked what we were doing; after explaining it was a cosplay portrayal, they found it fascinating and complimented how sharp and energetic the uniform looked. In terms of styling, to capture the character's neutral, aloof presence, the makeup kept clean contours without heavy eyeshadow, relying solely on contact lenses and eyeliner to trace Jeanne d'Arc (Alter)'s sharp gaze.
When sand kicked up in the wind, it nearly got into my eyes, but to achieve that wind-blown, vulnerable aesthetic, I had to let the breeze toss my hair—this genuine interaction was far more vivid than studio shoots. In summary, though exhausting, that day's shoot truly poured all my years of love for this character into the photographs. I hope this photo set allows everyone to see another side of Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) in Ordeal Call II. Regarding lens focal lengths, we alternated mostly between close-ups and full-body compositions. On the covered footbridge, we used a wide-angle, wide-aperture lens to capture the strong river breeze, whipping dramatic folds into the dark jacket. When shooting at the vending machine, we swapped to a fast prime lens to turn background lights into rounded bokeh orbs, highlighting the character's silhouette under dim streetlights—a lonely ambiance that fits this Servant's lore perfectly. While the overall color tone leans cool, the ambient dawn light at 5:00 AM carried very soft blue-purple hues; the photographer recorded all these subtle tonal shifts through the camera parameters, making the entire set look like living frames straight out of a storyboard.
