Shooting these Cosplay event photos at the IJOY Anime & Game Festival was thoroughly exhilarating. As a Surtr cosplayer, the post-apocalyptic, weathered aesthetic of this ensemble and the colossal volume of the props posed a true test of stamina and styling. First and foremost, a special thanks to photographer @Lanqiao_desu—both the turnaround speed and image quality were impeccable, capturing Laevatain's blazing flame effects and the character's icy, imposing aura to perfection. To faithfully reproduce Surtr's signature presence, I searched extensively for the wig, fine-tuning the saturation of the Red hair to make it look organic and richly textured. The iconic horns atop my head were crafted from lightweight materials, balancing fidelity with all-day wearing comfort across a bustling convention floor. The distressed white dress underwent numerous tailored alterations during stitching: preserving the delicate refinement of the lace while weathering frayed hems and fray marks left by combat. The skeletal arm ornaments also needed to adhere snugly against the skin without detaching during dynamic poses—every minor tweak aimed at superior visual impact. The greatsword in my hands was undeniably the most eye-catching prop in the hall, featuring a colossal blade with a vibrant red-to-yellow gradient. In front of the camera, I cycled through one-handed forward grips and two-handed holds to communicate combat readiness and raw power. Despite the noisy convention floor, Master Lanqiao guided my posture and mood masterfully, seizing that perfect piercing gaze. Navigating the venue in this outfit was physically draining, yet the moment I saw the finished photos, all the fatigue from pulling all-nighters to prep props and repeatedly fixing makeup vanished. I've always loved portraying character archetypes combining fierce strength with fragile vulnerability; using wardrobe, props, and subtle expressions to bridge the gap with the canon design is a profoundly satisfying journey. Pre-shoot communication with Master Lanqiao was seamless: we aligned on emphasizing the character's intimidation and cold detachment, leaning toward sharp, punchy chiaroscuro. On-site lighting control paired with fine-tuning in post made the contrast between the Red hair and the white tattered dress exceptionally striking. Handling colossal props at conventions seriously tests footwork and physical endurance, but greeting so many passionate fellow fans who stopped by for photos gave me boundless energy to keep my form sharp. Every cosplay outing is a fresh adventure—from costume prep to on-site styling and channeling the character before the lens. Surtr's design is inherently packed with narrative tension; her detachment and combat decisiveness must be telegraphed through the eyes and body language. I consciously modulated my eye focus to embody that vacant yet intensely vigilant state. With intense chromatic contrast between crimson locks, distressed white fabric, and the radiant greatsword, the visual impact hit with immense power. I hope this photo set brings everyone a unique impression, and I eagerly look forward to taking on more daring characters and challenging shoots in the future.
