[Vivian cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero's Part-Time Emperor: Nailing Today's Expressions

Before meeting Phaethon, people called me the part-time emperor. Today, I'm capturing a set of photos imitating Vivian's subtle expressions. I am thoroughly satisfied with how this set turned out—from prop nuances to emotional demeanor, I strived to stay as close to the character's essence as possible.

Starting with the wig: I wore a light purple and white layered wig with vibrant, prominent white highlights at the crown that transition very naturally. The bangs were trimmed into heart-shaped layers that frame the face while adding dynamic playfulness. Subtle glitter embedded in the fibers caught the soft indoor studio light, scattering delicate shimmer across the strands for wonderful texture in this Purple hair cosplay.

Makeup required significant effort. To replicate the deep, enigmatic gaze, I wore red contact lenses that fit comfortably in both size and hue. Red eyeshadow was blended smoothly, deepened along the lower eyelid to create a slightly flushed, weary, or tear-glistening aura. While it looks straightforward, controlling the blending boundary demands precision to avoid puffiness, requiring multiple adjustments to achieve this balance.

The ears used silicone Elf ear cosplay prosthetics that contoured smoothly along the face's sides without stark seam lines. To enhance realism, a thin foundation layer blended the edges, keeping it seamless even under close-up shots.

The outfit boasts extensive detailing. The outer layer features a structured white uniform jacket made of crisp, firm fabric that holds its sharp shape. It is detailed with silver metal buttons and dark strap paneling. The neckline design is the most complex—combining a semi-sheer white lace collar, dark faux-leather vest paneling, and a prominent centerpiece bow tie. The deep blue bow tie features white stitching, a diamond-shaped metal badge clasp in the center, and long lavender chiffon ribbons dangling below. Tying this bow tie requires delicate care to ensure ribbons cascade evenly without looking bulky.

To capture Vivian's signature demeanor during the shoot, I deliberately chose half-lidded or direct-gaze angles. Since the character projects a slightly lazy or aloof charm, I avoided exaggerated poses, opting instead for subtle head tilts, natural hand placement along the cheek, or slight gestures. Paired with long black nails, the atmosphere instantly came together.

Regarding lighting, frontal key light highlighted the crisp white uniform textures and accent soft flushes on the face. Rather than complex lighting setups, clean softbox lighting kept the makeup looking crisp and free of distracting reflections.

Every cosplay session offers a fresh understanding of a character. For someone like Vivian—or Mockingbird—capturing her core through body language and gaze beyond just replicating costume design is something I pondered deeply before shooting. While the layered neckline made long shooting hours somewhat warm, seeing the final renders makes every bit of effort worthwhile.

Although we experimented with numerous poses and expressions during the process, the final selections best embody the image in my mind. Whether a subtle gaze or a deliberate small gesture, it felt like a relaxed yet focused creative experience.
