We agreed on Kirino, but I chose Kuroneko in the end. This time, as a special addition to my photography in Guangzhou and its surrounding areas, I shot a set of night photos for Gokou Ruri Cosplay in the night view of flower sea at Foshan Xianlu Island. Together with the glowing white church behind me, the flower sea at night indeed possesses a charm and atmosphere entirely different from the daytime, making it a very special attempt.

Kuroneko is a typical tsundere and sharp-tongued character in "My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute." The hustle and bustle of the day sometimes doesn't quite fit her cold and proud aura, but the flower sea under the cover of night instead grants the character a quiet, lonely, and serene beauty. For the costume, I chose a simple white slip dress, paired with a distressed straw hat that echoes the character's hairstyle. The long purple hair is the soul of Kuroneko; in the overall dark night environment, the color contrast between the white dress and the long purple hair makes the character stand out immensely, keeping the visual focus very clear.

Night photography is a great test of lighting and composition. The lighting control by photographer Chenguang Star this time was spot on; we used off-camera flash to illuminate the main subject and the flower sea in front. The glowing building in the background itself is a massive light source. Utilizing this backlighting effect not only preserved the geometric outline of the cathedral but also gave the entire frame a dreamlike Japanese micro-movie texture. The deep blue tone of the sky combined with the star noise retained in post-processing—this graininess actually enhances the atmosphere of the photos, like a frozen moment in the dead of night.

There were actually some minor challenges during the shooting process. The flower sea on the island grows very densely, so stepping inside wearing high-heeled sandals required careful footing, not to mention fending off the harassment of nighttime insects. However, to find the best camera position where the flowers cluster around the subject, it was all worth it. We didn't finish shooting until late at night. When the night breeze blew across the flower sea, that sense of serenity indeed made me unconsciously immerse myself into Kuroneko's state of wanting to hide her gentleness and standing alone under the moonlight. The surprise when the final photos came out was very real. The night, the flower sea, the stars, and the glowing building created an amazing atmosphere, successfully recreating a different side of the character Kuroneko.
