[Asuka Cosplay] Yellow dress and red flowers, freezing time in a starry flower sea

This shoot was selected at the cosmos flower sea right next to the Xibocheng Subway Station, using the night view of flower sea and starry sky atmosphere to complete this cosplay photoshoot based on Asuka as the prototype.

I brought along a Sony A7M4 and a Tamron 2875G2. Although it's hard to see the Milky Way with the naked eye on Chengdu nights, with the help of post-processed starry sky material compositing, we can create a strong visual contrast between the flower sea and the deep starry sky. A wide-aperture lens ensures excellent background blur and sufficient light intake for night portrait photography, making it possible to keep the subject looking clean and translucent as much as possible, even in the wild with few light sources.

For the styling, a light yellow camisole A-line dress was chosen. Instead of replicating the traditional combat suit, we went for a more casual and romantic style. The orange-red color of the wig, along with her iconic blue choker and red hair accessories, still retains the character's core recognizability. This casual wear look appears more harmonious in a natural scene like a flower sea, without looking too abrupt.

During the shoot, leveraging the slope of the Xibocheng flower sea and the height of the flowers, we arranged poses that showcase confidence or relaxation, such as holding a bouquet and looking back, lifting a single leg, and placing both hands on hips. Especially the shot with one leg lifted, where the skirt hem slightly raises, coordinates with the red high heels on her feet to beautifully showcase the leg lines amidst the grass and blossoms; it's also the one I personally feel is most suitable for the cover.

The difficulty of outdoor night shoots lies in light control and post-compositing. On set, I used reflectors and continuous light sources to cast soft light on the front and sides of the character as much as possible, avoiding ugly shadows on the face. When compositing the starry sky later, close attention must be paid to handling the character's edges and hair strands, striving to make the transition between the brightness of the starry sky background and the lit side of the character look natural. Moreover, the yellow of the dress is inherently a contrast color against the greenish environment of the grass; fine-tuning the white balance in post-processing can express this fresh feel more completely for this starry sky portrait.

Transportation to Xibocheng is very convenient with direct subway access, and the surrounding environment is open, making it suitable for everyone to come and create during leisure time. Common problems encountered when shooting night scenes are insect bites and insufficient light, so it's recommended to do protection in advance and bring good lighting equipment. The high heels I wore were actually not easy to walk in on muddy grass; if you want to shoot similar actions, remember to step firmly before posing.
