For this Touhou Project Marisa Kirisame photoshoot, the overarching aesthetic leaned toward a fusion of vintage romance and fairytale charm. The centerpiece of the wardrobe is a grey plaid capelet layered over a high-neck lace blouse; the lace ruffles along the neckline and cuffs are exceptionally lush, flaring outward into wide bell sleeves. The lower half features a tiered black skirt detailed with starry sky patterns, cinched at the waist with an antique-brown weathered leather belt and a small satchel pouch. Perched on my head was an oversized, color-blocked black-and-white wide-brimmed witch hat, edged with voluminous gathered black lace frills.
For the wig, I selected long, straight golden locks, intentionally weaving a loose three-strand braid draped over my chest. The makeup emphasized ocular definition to enlarge pupil proportions, pairing under-eye blush with a porcelain base to evoke a doll-like, luminous clarity. To highlight Marisa's magical identity, I held a small glass vial filled with pink glitter dust as a hand prop, posing to emulate casting spells or displaying arcane concoctions.
The shoot was staged in a cozy bedroom setting decorated with green drapes, white lace linens, and a pink unicorn plush toy. To harmonize with this environment, I explored varied posing—shifting from poised, proper seated postures to languid, relaxed lounging against the plushie. For the feet, I alternated between wearing black patterned Stockings and going barefoot; bare feet lent the frames an effortless, intimate lifestyle warmth, whereas wearing Stockings accentuated the elongated lines and curves of the legs.
Lighting across the bed prioritized diffused, soft front fill to prevent harsh, unflattering shadows. Because the outfit incorporates rich layering—especially the lace cuffs and ruffled skirt tiers—I had to continuously adjust and smooth the fabrics between takes to prevent bunching that might visually distort body proportions. While the colossal wide-brimmed hat looked magnificent, framing required careful angling to prevent the shadow of the brim from obscuring facial contours. The starry skirt and plaid capelet popped with tactile warmth against the neutral sheets. Before the lens, I consciously released tension from my neck and shoulders to keep my physical posture natural, forging an atmosphere that felt both meticulously refined and gently grounded in daily life. This series captures many of my creative experiments in detailed styling—from wig grooming and makeup adjustments to prop staging—making for an immensely fulfilling shoot where I thoroughly enjoyed the process of translating a 2D character into reality.
