[Marisa Kirisame cosplay] The Magician of Touhou Project, Flight Record in the Forest

Stepping into this Autumn forest filled with deepening autumn vibes after getting fully dressed, sunlight filtered through the tall trunks, casting dappled shadows across my shoulders. This bright yet lazy natural light was actually far better suited for showcasing this character's aura than studio flashes.

For this shoot, we chose a woodland area with dense trees and golden crowns as our outdoor location. To better showcase the layered feel of this black-and-white witch outfit, the photographer deliberately used low-angle shots. Since the skirt hem features rich lace and stacked ruffles alongside an inner white border, the low angle maximized the 3D depth of the dress. The wind direction today was also perfect; capturing the moment the wind blew my long golden hair created a wonderful dynamic effect, making the entire image feel less like a rigid studio photo and more infused with a breathing, lively presence of weaving through the woods.

The prop broom was also meticulously prepared—not only was the handle wrapped with decorative black and yellow twine to add detail, but a small orange pumpkin was also hung at the bottom. This small detail was actually crucial: amidst the predominantly black-and-white outfit color scheme, it provided a striking warm accent that subtly echoed the yellowing Autumn forest background. The prop felt great to handle during Cosplay photography, looking natural whether raised high or carried on my shoulder without appearing stiff.

For makeup and hair, long golden curly hair was paired with the classic black pointed witch hat. Styling the top hat ornaments and side braids took more time than usual, striving to make the hair volume and flow look naturally fluffy. The vest on top featured a white pentagram pattern, paired with a white puff-sleeved top trimmed with lace and a bow tie. This sharply contrasted black-and-white Magical girl outfit infused with cute elements remains highly recognizable even in everyday states, packed with anime charm.

The overall mood of the shoot was very relaxed. There was no need to deliberately strike overly fierce or cold combat expressions; instead, natural movements in the forest—lifting a leg, holding the brim of my hat, or gently adjusting my collar with my hand—best restored the character's brisk and confident nature. Because outdoor light changes quickly, we seized those golden window moments when clouds temporarily unblocked the sun, which is why you'll find distinct layers of light and shadow in the photos. During post-processing, we deliberately preserved the natural textures of the trees and the yellowish environmental tones of the Autumn forest, avoiding excessive filters that might alter the original color scheme. For me, taking cosplay photos of such a character isn't about complex posing, but rather conveying that sense of a free-spirited magician flying through the forest. Although this outfit isn't particularly heavy, moving through the woods for half a day while posing with the broom took some physical stamina, but seeing those natural, relaxed images in the final photos made it completely worth the effort.
